Our two year old Frenchie; whom we have had for almost a year, has just recently started knocking over and going through the kitchen bin and sometimes the waste food bin when she is left by herself so someone comes home and find a mess in the kitchen which needs clearing up, she doesn't seem to eat anything, she just makes a mess.

She has a walk in the morning and at most she is by herself between about 8:30 till 13:00, I don't think it is boredom as she has only just started doing it and the other day I left the house, got to the car, realised I had forgotten something and came back in to see her having a go at the bin.

We put the bins out of the way and my daughter has just come home from school to see a bottle of red wine smashed and all over the kitchen floor.

When I come home from work, everyone else is home by then, she comes straight to me all cowering, ears down, obviously she knows she has done wrong during the day.

Any ideas?

Is she thin?
Nope, she eats fine and there is always food in her bowl as she is a bit of a grazer when it comes to her eating so it's not as if there is never food for her.

The wife was in at 13:00 and went back out at around 14:45, the youngest was in at 15:30 from school, had a play with her and the went upstairs and she popped back down again half a hour later to be greeted with the smashed bottle of wine; it wasn't there when she got home from school.

It's all a bit odd.

Well, there are a few potential problems...

It still can be boredom. She is still at the age where she is not quite mature.

It can be attention seeking.

It can be a protest about you going out and leaving her. You could try a kong filled with treats when you go out.

When you do go out, just she sulk or play up at all?
We have a Kong however it has dissapeared, I'm off today so I'm going to hunt if down.

She doesn't sulk as such when we go out however she does give you "the look" and she does occasionally nip out the door when you are going out and goes off in to the gardnen and refuses to come back and then when you do catch up with her she does the old face down, bum in the air, scoot about thing which means she wants to play.

I think she is attention seeking myself, but it's not as though she doesn't get any, I guess as she is a people dog she just doesn't like being left alone, we are thinking about getting her a companion next year as she is quite high maintenance when it comes to attention and excercise; we thought Frenchies were quite lazy, so that may help.
