So I was walking along the beach with my daughter at Crawfordsburn near Belfast earlier, and couldn't help but feel a bit sad for the thousands of jellyfish lying dead all over the beach.

What causes this, possibly washed ashore during a storm? Not seen it before.

I guess its not entirely localised if you've seen it too rich. I always assumed jellyfish would be dead against an independent Scotland. I guess it just shows that you can't judge a book by its cover. Do you think perhaps there is a salmon amongst them?

Some of these replies are excellent!

The jellyfish ranged from about 15cm to 40cm across, all partly transparent with brown inside. Do all jellyfish sting?

OP.Were they like this ?

Almost exactly, just with a bit more brown about them perhaps, ive no idea how long they'd been there

I stopped feeling sorry for them when I realised they didn't have brains. They're apparently more of a plant than creature.
I've heard the same, but I'd feel somewhat bad even if a plant. Needlessly dead stuff sucks.
