RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch is this weekend. You spend an hour looking at the garden spotting and counting birds.

https://www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch/how-to-take-part...

We have it easy here, with a fair old haul:

Blackbird x2
Blue tit x4
Carrion crow x2
Chaffinch x2
Collared dove x2
Dunnock x2
Goldfinch x2
Great tit x2
House sparrow x1
Magpie x2
Robin x2
Starling x2
Woodpigeon x5
Nuthatch x2
Treecreeper x1

Some of those were new to us, and only spotted because we were making an effort.

Anyone else taking part?

I should say we have a set of feeders that are normally kept full, and some oak trees, and the South Downs start about 300m behind us, hence farmland - so we have it easy! smile

No sign of my favourite chappie recently, the great spotted woodpecker, a semi-regular visitor to ours. I hope he's still about.

Good to hear about the bullfinch & goldcrest - this is the sort of thing we'd see at a distance and assume, oh, sparrow or dunnock etc, so Birdwatch was really good in getting us to put more effort in.

If you've missed out, I think you can submit results until 16th Feb, so I think not too cheaty if you still want to do yours.

Lovely picture but sorry to dissapoint he's a male great spotted woodpecker. Still always a really nice thing to get on your feeders but if you were getting lesser spotted that'd be fairly amazing!
Typo on my part - I did know that! He is indeed an adult male.
