My first baby tortoise for a while, this time a pancake (makes a change from the leopards)
It's still a bit misshapen from being in the shell, it had been hatched about 2 hours before the picture.

It should grow to 6 or 7 inches long eventually - it's less than 12 hours old in that picture.
We've only had a few baby pancakes, they don't lay eggs very often and when they do the incubation period is between 20 to 30 weeks.

Most owners don't breed tortoises as far as I know, we've re-homed a batch of leopard tortoises which seem to breed regularly.
We bought a group of 4 pancake torts to see if we could breed them as they are quite rare, I think this is the fourth baby one so far (over 6 years)

It's a pretty small hand it's on, the tortoise is about the size of a 10 pence coin.
