Dogs traveling into the continent form the UK, best way...

Not going to be going till next year now but I want another trip to somewhere warm and dry next year. We last went on holiday 2 years ago when Vinnie was just 5 months, he stayed at home and my best mate house sat for us. I missed him big time, so now we have a nice comfortable car and he's not going to st and piss everywhere he can come with us.

Which is the easiest and most comfortable way for him to travel? I really done want to be locking him in cages and stuff, anyone got recommendations, tips, pointers, ferry? train?
