Abandoned kitten on the road
Discussion
Driving back to work along country roads and out of the corner of my eye I spotted markings on a small animal that were obviously not on a wild animal. So I turned around, stopped and saw it was a tiny kitten just sitting a foot or so into the road. Quite a few other cars had slowed down, but just took a wide berth and drove off! Unfortunately my frantic flashing didn't slow a coach driver down and he came thundering past.
Fearing the worst I put my hazards on and found the kitten in a load of stinging nettles... It was shaking and wet, smelling quite strongly of fuel. I couldn't leave it and a local chap who came out to see what the fuss was confirmed no-one local owns cats. I couldn't hear or see the mother so I made the decision to take it. Poor thing meowed pitiously but then kind of curled up in my hands and started purring!
Luckily I live close to a vets so put him / her in a shoe box and drove over. They agreed to take it in to give it a once over but the chances of pulling through are 50 / 50 I couldn't stay as its not the greatest excuse for being late back to work!
So that's where we stand - no idea if I have to pay for the vet or if he / she is going to be ok. I hope so, because even though I'm not a 'cat' person I really fell for the fella.

Thanks for the nice replies all, its good to 'talk' to animal lovers as my work mates mostly just said I should feed it to my dog.....
..... Which brings me onto why as much as I want to, our home is not suitable for mogs. My choccy lab would be friends I'm sure but next doors Bedlington terrier is literally a killer. That and we live near a main road.
Good news though - SHE is doing well (I chose Diesel too!), having wolfed down some food and physically fine. Spent most the afternoon asleep on the nurses lap
She is apparently a feral cat but will stay with the vets for a week then be rehomed, with someone interested already! Hopefully a happy story and I'm glad I stopped.
