can I feed a hedgehog on pork pie?

The OH has just rung and is on her way home with a poorly hedgehog.

Options to feed it: -

dry dog food : fish flavour james welbeloved.
pork pie - would be daughters lunch tomorrow
various veggie stuff that probably wont be of interest


Any other suggestions?

found some mince at the back of the freezer

water provided.
Hot water bottle wrapped in a towel and hog in cardboard box.

I think it is too small to hibernate.
Barely moving - hope that it will warm up and eat, but I think you may be right - not sure its going to survive.

Survived the night and is looking quite a lot better for food and drink.


I've arranged to take him/her to the vet this afternoon - I'll see what they say.

Just dropped him off at a Hedgehog Rescue centre.

He was 190g so well under weight for hibernation. Vet said that he needed constant heat as well from heat pad or heat lamps.

Certainly much better for 24hrs of being in the warm (constant hot water bottles ) with food, I dont think he would have survived if the OH had left him where he was.

Did some research and found a hedgehog rescue place in Ripon so drove him down and dropped him off with a donation.

Hopefully he'll be OK.
