Hiya, Mrs Buzz recently spent a week helping out a rescue shelter in kefalonia she loved every minute, I joined her a week later for a holiday and we also spent a couple of days there working.
While Mrs Buzz was there she completely fell for one of the dogs she introduced me to her and I fell for her too. (its funny how out of 350 dogs you can be drawn to one)

We are currently going through the process of bringing her to the UK and giving her a home with us.

While going through process one of the tests has highlighted that she has 2 parasitic infections.

The first one is Ehrlichia and we have been told that that can be sorted and she is been started on that treatment right away. The other is Leishmania, which I believe is not curable as such.

I have read several web sites on both subjects but they are very general showing all potential variations and outcomes and mostly written in "mediacal-ese" so its not really clear to me. I know there are several people on here that are in the veterinary world or are very clued up about these things and wondered if you guys/gals have any "plain English" information and advice on these conditions. What it will mean and what we can do.

These two conditions have not stopped us from taking her on, shes a lovely dog and although the rescue shelter does a very good job with the limited funds and man power they have, she will have a far better life with us even if she is ill. We will give her all the medical attention and love she needs.

Buzz84,

Wondering if you can help me, I've had a bit of a run in with a dog charity trying to find a home for a leish +ve dog currently in France. They have been trying for several months to find a home for it in surrounding countries unsuccessfully cue several offers from those in the UK but they have told everyone they can't import into the UK.
ß
I queried this on fb only to have my comments deleted and then a private msg stating that I was incorrect that she may be able to be imported to UK and as they didn't want it to be about her illness they took my comments off and they hoped I didn't mind.

You are definitely able to import your dog I assume or have I made myself look stupid!! (not difficult!!)
Hi Bex, you can defiantly import a dog to the UK who has leishmania, the dog we're adpoting is all sorted with vaccinations, a pet passport and is booked on a flight on the 15th September.

Leishmania is spread via sandflys (which we don't have in the UK) and isn't contagious

From some of the links and other sources we have found out a fair bit and it's no where as scary as it sounds. I mean to come back and write a better more detailed reply shortly (I hate open ended posts where the OP never comes back - but we've just got back from our anniversary weekend away, so I promise to come back soon)

The group Jasandjules posted above seem very good with a lot of knowledgeable active members https://www.facebook.com/groups/447077055372021/

Hi Bex, as I am doing more reading up I came across this which is from DEFRA

http://ahvla.defra.gov.uk/external-operations-admi...

Bottom of page 2 onto the top of page 3 says it's is fine to bring these animals in.

Someone on your page needs to do better research. At least this is some documented proof if you wish to go back to them, but from what you have said it may not be worth the effort if they are no narrow minded.
