Things to do near Boscastle, Cornwall?

The better half and I have booked a week in a lovely cottage in Boscastle in October, would be grateful for any recommendations of what to do, what to avoid, where to eat etc as we've never been anywhere near the area.

We'll have the car, a dog, some wellies and a raincoat so outdoorsy things or those within a shortish drive are grand.

We're obviously near beaches, seaside towns, Cornwall AONB and Dartmoor national park but as this provides a multitude of options we're looking for specifics - maybe hidden gems of beaches, lovely seaside towns that aren't that well known, any ideas welcomed.

Thanks very much for the suggestions so far folks, we do like a good walk as does the dog (and are used to doing a fair distance), any that have good pubs/restaurants at the end or along the way are especially appealing
