Visiting Lindon - advice please.

Usually I go to London with work - ie someone else pays. I just buy tube tickets and claim it back.
For the first time in ages, I am going for 3 days as a tourist.
The extremes of travel would be no more than Highgate, and east Greenwich or docklands.
Most of the time will be spend in the centre.
Would it be best to buy an Oyster card or a daily travel card?
I looked it up online and it seems a bit confusing to a bloke from the stocks!
