I know i need some more travel gadgets, although i don't know exactly what they are yet so i am going to ask for your advice.

I've just been reading the torch thread which sadly i got sucked into and found fascinating.

So now i know i need a new torch there must be other things i need to buy to compliment my next purchase.

What useful/helpful/interesting/must have travel gadgets have you got/used ?

Don't care what it is - knives/adapters/clothes/sewing kits/cameras/hats/electronics/sleeping bags/etc,etc,etc !!

Anything goes - remember - Christmas is coming !!

Do need a new small bag but as i'm flashpacking and sailing need a soft bag that can get stuffed under/behind seats, etc.

I've not heard that phrase before - what is it?
You have backpackers that stay in the dirtiest/cheapest accomodation possible to save some cash (more beer) but when you become a bit older and don't do the cheapest/nastiest places anymore and stay in hotels/motels, you've become a flashpacker !!

Still on the move, travelling for weeks/months but staying in slightly higher grade accomodation as you don't put up with all the stuff you did when you were a yoof.

A USB power bank. Invaluable for camping/travelling.
An excellent reminder, thank you ! Been caught out a couple of times with flat batteries when my hotel receipt is only on my phone/notepad.

Jus seen some solar powered/dust proof/waterproof ones - any experiences or recommendations ?

It's not exactly a travel gadget but I always travel now wearing cargo/combat pants.
I bought a pair of NorthFace trousers that can convert to shorts when you unzip the legs, slightly stretchy, fast drying, got them in Vietnam for 15 dollars so obviously not original but a few months wearing them and they are still together !!

Should have bought two pairs.

Just got my Skross travel adapter Xmas present, impressive piece of plastic. Also my thin fibre quick drying towel which prove useful if you're staying in cheap places which don't supply you with a towel.

Still not sold on a battery pack back up, been caught a couple of times but can avoid this with a bit of pre-planning. One i was interested in said it was about 150 grams in weight but then a review said it was actually 750 grams - don't want the extra weight really.

Good idea about a Leatherman, saw some in Asia but couldn't quarantee quality/original but can see how useful they can be.

I think there is a lot to be said for quality/useful clothing, can make life a lot easier.

Have got to think about taking/saving copies of documents which i don't do much and get a job load of passport photos for visa applications - and thats just reminded me about an international driving license.

Not sold on the sink plug or door stop !!

Think i'm going to upgrade my phone so i can do away with a happy snappy camera i take with me sometimes. It does amaze me with the quality of photos one can take on a camera phone nowadays, perfect for travel blogs/facebook/emailing to friends, etc.

And if you're travelling for some time a bundle of dollars is always useful as they will be accepted pretty much anywhere.

Have to say it appears well built and well finished, comes with built in torch and good display.

Proper pillow, a useful addition is a button loop on it so you can attatch it to your suit case when your going through the airport etc, its is bulky compared to say the inflatable ones but long haul flights suitcase space isnt usually an issue
Thought these were a good idea but didn't want to carry a pillow around with me, just realised that they do an inflatable one too.

Does anybody know how small a normal one folds down to ? As it might be more comfy ?

I regret not buying a universal sink plug................ !!

Battery pack not a necessity, if you have it you use it, if you don't you think in advance !! Used it once in seven weeks.

International SIM card, errmm, works some places not others !!

Bundle of USD - useful.

Some clothes/bag ideas are the best i think, just makes life a little easier every day.

Keep your hair short - you can wash it under the tap in McDonalds !! wink

I would like an adults version of the kiddy ride on suitcases. Superb for racing fellow bored passengers around the waiting lounges & down the rampways.

They could do them with V8 or turbo dump valve noises, spoilers & blinged up wheels. Maybe they could have regenerative wheels to charge your phone up as you ride along too.
Think theres a link on page 1 or 2 to a sit on adult suitcase wink
