UK luxury campsite recommendations for family holidays?

Evening all,
Christmas is approaching, so I'm getting fed up with all things festive, and starting to look around for a summer holiday destination!
Our track record to date has camping in France as the most successful sort of holiday to keep the whole family (kids of 11, 9 & 6) amused and de-stressed, but firstly I'm somewhat fed up with the whole setting up and dismantling of our own tent, and secondly I'm rather more fed up with having to do all the long drives (my wife can't drive), so for next summer I fancy firstly staying in the UK (thinking most probably South West) and secondly finding somewhere with accommodation provided.
The challenge I'm having is that I can find plenty of very, very small places (just one or two tents), and plenty of vast sites which look as though they'd be somewhat overrun by the sort of people who view replica football strips as formal dress code.
Ideally, I'd like somewhere ideally costal and fairly rural but with a decent pub and a couple of shops within walking distance, and with enough pitches (say a dozen to 20 or so) to give a reasonable chance of the kids finding other kids to play with. The sort of place which is happy to allow campfires and provides equipment specifically to help the kids build dens in the grounds and so on is a definite positive.
So... What recommendations does PH have?
