We're due to return home at christmas for a wedding and just interested in anyones experiences of doing the same from Oz/NZ?

The thing that seems to be playing on our minds is getting extra seats for the kids, if we have them sitting on our laps the prices are reasonable and we can afford them quite easily.
The trouble is, having a 2 year old on my lap for 30+ hours is going to be pretty hard going and if I get scensoredy due to lack of sleep and sore legs I can imagine the kids will too. Which will make for an awesome time for everyone else on the plane.

or do we get extra seats only for them to want to sit on our laps the entire way lol.

cheers

Alex

DHL. yes
Kids that size can last ages in a box with a few snacks. Make an air hole too.
It'll be kinder on your fellow travellers anyway.
While I have no problem with that, it seems the wife does. Women just have no sense of adventure lol

Bad news, you have to buy seats for them at 2 years old, they can't go on your lap.

Kiss goodbye to your retirement fund! $$$$$$$$
technically they'll be 22 months so just in.

And yes I know kids on planes are fun biggrin

The trouble we have is NZ direct to LHR is 26ish hours but expensive or NZ to Oz to Dubai to LHR is cheaper but 40ish hours. And that doesnt include getting from New Plymouth to Auckland and LHR to Southampton.

Righty oh. We flew short haul to Europe with ours twice when she was under 2, both times on our laps and it was ok. She was getting restless after a while though, I can't imagine having the pair of them on laps for the entire flight. You could be lucky and book a window and aisle seat, and hope the flight isn't full and nobody buys the seat inbetween. I personally wouldn't take that risk though.

Additionally, that is a very long flight. Are you considering a 24hr layover, maybe Singapore?
We did look at it but the costs involved just get ridiculous, as it stands we looking at about £10K just to go to my dads wedding.

What I fantastic idea, as its normally the chair bed things and the kids will be small enough to sleep together on one.

EFA. Get your own Gulfstream or quit whinging. Airliners are public transport, so they carry people. I'd much rather sit next to noisy kids than some pissed-up bloke hoovering up all the plane's miniatures and trying to get the stewardess to induct him into the Mile High Club.
My thoughts exactly, so many people nowadays believe in their own self importance.

Thank you to all those who've been helpful biggrin

If you're ever in New Zealand and in my neck of the woods I'll buy you a beer biggrin

. Our friend the OP isn't even prepared to spend a few quid on breaking up the journey because that will cost money. Sod everyone else, sod his wife, sod the two year old daughter.

So glad I'm not on that flight, what a nightmare.
I'd just like to take this opportunity to apologize to the professionally offend who joined the conversation.

Sorry I decided to move halfway round the world,
Sorry I decided to start a family,
Sorry my family decided to invite us to a major event in their lives and want to see their grandchildren.

Sorry I don't earn as much as you and can only afford what I can.

What I've decided to do is tell my 89 year old Nan she'll never see her only great grandchildren, then I'm going to lock the kids in the loft a'la Bart Simpsons twin and make sure they never see the light of day incase they may annoy someone on the internet.

This thread is really getting inline for an addition to the cringe worthy thread

It seems Air NZ do a Sky Couch, where the 3 window seats have pop out foot rests that turn into beds and at a not too unreasonable price.

Despite really liking the Business class seat/bed idea $26k was a little bit much.

I should save your apologies, I suspect you'll be needing them for your wife, your kids and your fellow travellers, probably at about six hours in after your two year olds have woken up grouchy to find themselves stuck on a plane. Still, only another 24 hours to go...

As to the cringe thread, yup, I'd say your passive aggressive whine about people daring to disagree with you and your plea of poverty for your ten grand plane ride qualifies, well done. thumbup

Have a super flight! biggrin
As my flight will have no baring on you, I really don't understand your anger towards someone taking kids on a flight you wont be on?
But I see it's ok for you to aggressive disagree with people, but get all butt hurt if they disagree with you.

I remember when trolling meant something hehe
