I've got four days in Stockholm for a wedding end July/beginning August. I'm flying in and out of Arlanda and was considering car hire. There will be a lot of family there and the car will probably be handy. I'm happy enough hoofing around or using public transport myself, but as above, the car might be handy.

What sites (comparison ideally) would you recommend to check prices etc? Is it cheaper to pick up/drop off at the airport or the city centre? Pickup at the airport could be about 1700, and it'd be a similar time for drop off, if not slightly earlier.

Cheers FiF (as ever).

I was slightly concerned that a few of the "airport" hire companies appeared to be "off site", but I'm a bit happier with that knowledge now. As you say, pick up/drop off at the airport probably saves £20 or so each way, and I can get a car for £25 (Golf or similar) per day, so it's looking like a bit of a no brainer.

I'd much rather be going by motorbike, but haven't enough time after the wedding to get back due to leave restrictions.

Looking at the Swedavia website they've had a bit of a change.

Car park bus Beta takes you to Hertz, Europcar, Budget , Avis.
Sixt have moved out of those offices and are now in Car park Alfa so the other bus.
If you're going into Terminal 2 then Enterprise are there which is a new one on me.

Who is your carrier? BA?
Carrier is SAS, ex Copenhagen on the way out (having a few days there first) and SAS again back home to the UK. Now I know there's an easy shuttle option I'll just pick up and drop off at Arlanda for ease. I've got full euro sat nav on my iPhone so no issues navigating straight into the city centre to the hotel.

Last time I hired, it was cheapest hiring in the centre and dropping off at the airport - this fitted our plans so was great. As others have said, don't let the "off site" hire car location put you off. it really is very close.

Driving in Sweden is a pleasure - even Stockholm isn 't too bad, so it's great if you are planning to get out and about.
Cheers Mighty Flex. As above, for ease I think I'll just pick up and drop off at the airport. I'm not going to get it much cheaper than £20-25 a day I don't think.

I'm a bit of a scandiphile - my last two summer holidays have been motorbike trips round Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. I'd much rather do this trip by bike too, but I only have two days after the wedding to get back from Stockholm so it's just not doable by bike.

I'm not sure how much time I'll get "off" while I'm there so I'll probably not get out of the city unfortunately.

Booked a VW Golf for four days, pick up and drop off at the airport, less than a hundred quid. Used a link from the MSE site. Think it was carrentals.co.uk or similar.
