Flew back from Thailand via Moscow (BKK-DME 9hours - VKO-LHR 4hours) on Friday to find 2 rather unhappy Russians had taken our seats (2 of us), we mentioned this to the flight crew who were rather confused.

The seats weren't specifically booked and just happened to be the first 2 of the economy class, just behind first class, so had a little more leg room, good tv view etc.

These two people did not want to move! They wouldn't get their tickets out either and kicked up a bit of a stink about it.

Long story short we got our seats back, two pissed off Russians moved, right to the back for that matter.

It was a 9 hour flight, they were good seats.

Has this happened to you? How did you react? How did the person react?

It's not this worst thing in the world, just seemed a little odd, trains sure, planes, not so much.

Sorry all, misleading, the flights were connecting through From London, through Moscow to Thailand so we couldn't 'choose' a seat but we were still 'allocated' seating, as per all flying i've come across.

The Russians firstly don't like Brits, so that really helped our case, that and being on Transearo, which is a Russian airline.

At least the stewardesses were helpful enough.

Sorry though! I'm that guy on the train who sits in any random seat, using them so infrequenetly I forget about those who reserve, I will gladly (Slightly annoyed if it's empty) move if asked though.

Another story! Whilst in Thailand I did 3 internal flights, on one of these there was a German couple.

The flight itself, I think it was Chiang Mai to Phuket, was quite empty, it's obvious people were going to move around once we were up.

These two Germans spoke no English or Thai and decided to sit in the emergency seats mid aircraft. Queue the arguing, hands waving, would not move, plane actually delayed by 15 minutes. This is all because they could not understand the brief on how to open the hatch in the case of an emergency, plus were probably too old to do so. Fully on board (pun intended) to the idea that the stewards have to brief and be confident of the people sitting in the emergency exit seats so I was happily watching!

Eventually they moved to their allocated seats, much huffing and puffing later, the 2 hour flight was done and they stormed off.

Sorry again, i'm that guy on the train frown

To avert the topics direction slightly - Clapping on ladding - What the hell is that all about? I work in an airport, perhaps I am numb to aircraft and their arrivals and departures, hence the original post with it feeling odd. (I work in area that has nothing to do with the pax of aircraft)

But really, the amount of flights, there really is no need to clap.

Maybe I'm just cynical?
