Obviously I've read the other comments on the thread about New York in August, but we don't mind the heat! My problem is a wife who is a teacher so trying to get a reasonable flight is pretty hard work especially when I want direct flights from the north of England/Scotland.

Compounding my concerns is that when me and the lads used to go a lot back in the early 00's we never used to pay much more than £250 per flight, I know things have gone up in the last 10-15 years but some of the prices I'm being asked are eye watering!

All advice appreciated!

Wonder why Wednesdays make a difference? Flying from Edinburgh does indeed get cheaper-around £950 for both of us which is much more like it!

I've flown United from the US back to europe and it was, without doubt, the worst longhaul overnight flight I've ever had - and that despite having a sickness bug flying back from Vancouver once! Yes, United were THAT bad.
I hope your Edinburgh option isn't with United?

(United for U.S domestic flights in business (U.S = First Class!) are actually very good though!)
Indeed it is with united! Are they really that bad?!

Bearing in mind we used to travel British Airways to and from New York back 15 years ago-Shirley nothing could be that bad!

.....but if i was going on a holiday with the other half i'd probably stump up the extra to fly with a nicer airline.
^^^THIS, honestly. thumbup
In what way though? I'll be honest, I detest air travel at the best of times but other than st food and no inflight entertainment how bad can it be? Unfortunately driving to New York via a ferry isn't possible smile

We go to lanzarote regularly and have to put up with jet2/easyjet/Ryanair etc so will it be packed in worse than those?

Edited to add, it's not a matter of stumping up extra to get a better carrier, we're talking twice the price for anything good with added stops on the way or travelling from airports that are miles away. As I said, I truly cannot be arsed with flying and consider it something to be endured for as short as possible!
