UK break with pregnant wife
Discussion
Hi guys, my pregnant wife (18 weeks) isn't keen on going abroad this year and so we are thinking of visiting somewhere in the UK for up to a week. We would probably stay in a four star hotel but nothing too extreme price-wise, ideally there would be lots to do out and about but not too busy or tiring (London's out) and ideally, great weather. Happy to drive from Glasgow or possibly sail/fly. Any ideas?. I was thinking about Cornwall earlier but I'm open to your thoughts.
Thanks in advance. Martin

Lake District?
ETA ... how long pregnant?
Yup, the Lakes could be a good call. We stayed in the Windermere Boutique Hotel I think it was a couple of years ago - nice enough but would probably try somewhere else.ETA ... how long pregnant?
She's 18 weeks tomorrow so not huge but still tired and getting bigger every few days it seems. Obviously lying sunbathing isn't an option, she's obviously off alcohol and is watching what she's eating so it would almost be a waste to spend a couple of grand going abroad and she can't do the things we normally would do.
Thanks for all the replies so far guys - I'm off on holiday so will check out the suggestions above. Arran is out as I have bad memories of the place which is a pity as I've always fancied the Auchrannie Resort. Whilst Glasgow has its downsides, I'm not a huge fan of Edinburgh although my wife treated me to an overnight stay at the Witchery last year and it was lovely - not sure it was worth the money overall but that's another story.
I don't know anything about Bournemouth or Exeter so I'll do some research.
With regard to the Moness Resort Terzo, it appears on the likes of Groupon now and again and whilst I've been tempted, I've kind of been put off by some of the pictures and reviews on Trip Advisor (we tend to check these first). What has your experience been like?
Will also check out Durham too!
Keep them coming folks. Cheers!
edit: as for the eat for two argument - she's in the 'just an excuse to eat st and get fat' camp. She's been eating a much more healthy and balanced diet however.

How about up Durham way, not too far from scotland...

I stayed there with work years ago and would love to go back again...
Thanks for the suggestion - looks like a very nice hotel but about £500 for only 5 nights which is room only - just too pricey I think but I'll have a look at other options in Durham too.http://www.lumleycastle.com/

I've not read any of the trip advisor stuff from Moness. Gonna check now ha.
The inlaws had a time share there so i've been a few times and it's always been very good. The accomodation is basic but nice enough, the surroundings are lovely, and your only a five minute walk from the Birks of Aberfeldy.
The resort has a decent sized pool, with Spa/Sauna and Steam room, and there's a private dining area, although i've never used it.
It's a great base for exploring around Perthshire which for us was the main thing and your only a 10 minute drive away from Loch Tay and all the touristy stuff there.
The only gripe i've ever had there was that i ordered a beef burger from the bar, and they gave me a ham burger. 1st world problems and all that.
Another place which i would recommend is the self catering lodges at Duchally near Auchterarder. The lodges there are fantastic, easily a level up from from the ones at Moness, however i prefer the location of Moness.
Edited to add, with both you can stay in the "Hotel" as apposed to the lodges.

Thanks, will check it out. Can anyone comment on St. Alban's? Someone in my wife's work suggested it today?

Hotel in the Cotswolds area then?
Thanks for the suggestion - I'll have a look at what the area has in terms of tourist attraction. I wouldn't say we're big 'cultural' attraction lovers but we would visit a museum and check out any places of interest. I would love to find somewhere with lots of interesting places to visit that isn't too rowdy/tacky but at the same time, not somewhere that only really offers outdoor type activities.jesta1865 said:

Really want to stick to a hotel on this occasion I think.
i know you said hotels, but you could do a lot worse than herehttp://www.llethrydbarns.co.uk/
http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g186466-...
been there a 3 times, the people that run it (Julie and Adrian) are lovely, my wife and I are known as the land rover people (stayed there once after a week green-laning in Wales).
the rooms are all self contained with breakfast in the main house.
Great places to eat in the area, plus Joe's ice cream (http://www.joes-icecream.com/Find-Your-Nearest.html?postcode=ss7+1el)
Beautiful area (bar swansea that is, didn't like it there) and you could convince your other half to try here www.welsh-whisky.co.uk, get her to drive you get to sample
just an idea.
p.s. nothing to do with us, just love the place and the area.
Is Brighton a place to avoid? (I've heard that it's a classier Blackpool)

There is nothing to do there. It just a town like any other. Nice place to live but holiday???lol.
Brighton has loads to do and great places to eat.
Just watched a couple of videos on-line and there seems to be quite a bit to do for us. With it being only 20 minutes away from London it could well be the ideal location for us. Brighton does indeed look like a place with lots to do but more and more people are telling me it's increasingly full of stag and hen parties which is the complete opposite of what we're looking for.Brighton has loads to do and great places to eat.
