Hello all,

The Mrs and I fancy a holiday either just after Christmas or at the start of the new year. Flight length we'd go further for better weather but nothing over 10 hours say (I'd really have liked to go to South Africa).

For reasons I won't go in to we want to go somewhere that has decent medical care in case of an unlikely emergency.

I've been before and wouldn't knock anyone who wants to go or has been recently but wouldn't consider Egypt, Tunisia etc at the moment.

We've had connecting flights into Dubai but never stated over

Caribbean? Probably within the flight time been to quite a few places and would go back.

Canaries? Seems warm rather than hot but would probably be fine?

Main land Spain not warm enough.

I usually save my holidays and £ at this time of year for skiing but due to an injury won't be able to so I'm not really up on the better places to go etc at this time of year.

Thanks for the reply. We've done quite a lot of the US over the years and normally wouldn't rule it out but have an outstanding speeding ticket (long story) it's £400 odd quid so would have to factor in paying that, my arse would be nipping going through immigration otherwise!

We're up north so would need a connecting flight for Heathrow or get a connection elsewhere which adds a few more hours on IME flights to Cape Town aren't cheap, but as I said I'd love to go again.

On the speeding ticket in the US, it was 5 years ago I was stopped given a ticket and told the fine would come through to my UK address, I waited and nothing came so I wondered if the cop just made a show of it (I was 5 mph over). 2 years later I get a letter through asking for ~$700.

Thailand mainland hospitals are very good. Only another 60 minutes to BKK past your 10-hour deadline!
I'd go back to Thailand in a heartbeat but again issues with direct flights from our cloest airport plus getting from Bangkok to a beach so I reckon we'd well exceed the 10 hours.

So far I am finding:

Barbados and St Lucia are expensive compared to the Mexican Caribbean coast and places like the Dominican Republic and Cuba. We just want to chill out for a week up to 2 weeks so don't particularly care as long as the sun is warm, with a good hotel and food.

Looked at Cape Town but with no direct flights available to us we'd be looking at in excess of 14 hours so no good.

I've really never fancied Dubai, I've flew through many times but it meets my brief, similar temp to the Caribbean but more sunlight allegedly. Given the sheer quantity of Emirates flights there are plenty of direct flights and they're not expensive.

I'm back on to the Caribbean now probably the Caribbean Cost of Mexico. I'm sure the health care is more than adequate in most tourist destinations but finding it hard to convince the Mrs......

Similary to Cape Town just can't get there quick enough as we have to get a regional flight in order to get a direct flight from Heathrow. By time you're doing a connection etc it's realistically the best part of a day IME travelling.
