small tools in hand luggage
Discussion
Hi there
I'm travelling to Barcelona from Edinburgh (via London) on Friday to visit my nephew - his iPhone is faulty so I have a replacement battery and a replacement dock connector (small PCB) complete with tools. The guidelines say tools should have a shaft length of no more than 6cm - does anybody know if shaft length excludes the handle? It does look like a small bomb making kit so I want to avoid being tasered on the spot...
Thanks
Tim

I'm going to give it a go and see what happens; the Edinburgh airport rules state that you can carry on screwdrivers so long as the shaft is less than 6cm - the shafts are less than 6cm, but I've cut down the handles so the entire length is now less the 6cm just in case. I will print out the "rules" just in case but from experience the security staff don't seem to follow logic/reason. I will tuck them into a side pocket of my bag so hopefully they won't notice them....

Sharp instruments that you're not sure you should take or not, you've altered them to make them less likely to be taken off you and concealed them and no bragging that you've got through security. Nice one, hope you've packed some lube if you get caught
Eh? What the hell are you on about? They conform to the rules so what's the problem? "Lub if I get caught" - for what? Taking through something that I'm entitled to? Get a life.Bragging? no, just updating the thread given people have contributed.
