Quick heads up, the border on the A16/E40 is diverted off to two roundabouts then back on to the motorway, this is on both sides of the road. If you like sitting in 5kms of traffic stay on the motorway, if not get off at Dunkirk/Adinkirke and head towards the coast/canal roads to miss it, its looking to be rubbish for the next few months. Also the migrants have broken through the fence on the run up to the port in Calais, they are dragging crap on to the road to try to stop drivers, all traffic was being diverted through town which was a nightmare last night.

I've already booked and paid for the tunnel crossing, I'll just keep my foot down and my eyes closed.
You should be ok on the tunnel, D4 is the last junction that you need to turn off the A16.Miss that and its wait or reverse up a slip road, clears throat with a cough....

There was a baracade across the road towards the port the other day, it was empty barrels and bit of tree. My dad drove through it in his coach smashing it out of the way, police just stood by and watched it. Still doesn't bother me and I'll still go over for day trips and holidays.

Very surprised that a Lorry driver hasn't been killed yet.

I've been over today, was stopped by the French customs at the most northern check point in France was trying to do a uturn to get some diesel and was picked out, quick check on the car and let on my way, not in and out of the A16/E40 where rammed, hours delay each way. I've seen this now a few times and sitting in the back of the police van drinking is not catching bloody terrorists.

Well there suppose to be checking, all there doing is slowing everything down to a slight crawl whilst they drink whatever and chat in the warmth of there police vehicles, bloody shambles. The petrol station attendant in de-panne told me it'll be like this till after Christmas so be warned, avoid the main border.

Just look at a map, find a road above the A16 and aim towards it. Wasn't that much longer getting to Adinkirke than the normal route, I think Sunday's will quieter as less trucks.

Id say that any motorway going through the border has a risk of being patrolled.

The coast road added about 10 minutes each way to my trip last Saturday. If the D601/N39 are busy/shut try theD60/N386.

If your travelling by boat the police are checking most car boots at the french passport control, leave plenty of time for the outward bound boot as its very slow through the passport check,if TAP is on best not to do Jubilee way as its always backed up by trucks trying to jump the queue. Head for the castle and come out by the town, then head for the port.

Maybe if people could add any routes out of France that is quiet or have any updates on the routes that I've suggested maybe you could post it up here to help the rest of us.

Just a heads up, going through Dover port is now a bloody nightmare. Try driving at the port from any direction other than Jubilee way. Also in the port the lanes go 1-6-4-1 so is a bottle neck/pinch point when really busy.
