Oktoberfest Munich
Discussion
3 time veteran of it here. Not been for a couple of years (although made it over for the Spring beer festival in Munich last year).
Tip well when getting beers. Means for way quicker service.
Eat plenty and take it easyish on the beer - it's 6% or so.
Avoid the bouncers. I've seen them dole out kickings to people - not pleasant.
If any of your group get paralytic and decide they want to pass out somewhere, don't do it on the grass banks unless you want to be pickpocketed.
Avoid the helter skelter. The travelator going up runs at ~10mph or so. You'll fall off it and it hurts (speaking through experience).
Go on a day without a table reservation too. Get there early and join locals. You'll have more fun (maybe). I've never bothered with table reservations!

Are you going during the week or weekend? 5 of us went 2 years ago with a mate who lives in Munich and it was completely rammed on the Saturday, we arrived about 1pm ( travelled from Nuremberg hungover!) and it took us well over an hour to get into a tent, he had advised us to get there for 9-10am and next time we will ensure we do this but while looking for our missing friend on Sunday morning it was much quieter and arriving at 11am would be fine
If your going to wear lederhosen then get some decent ones ( no cheap fancy dress) or don't bother at all, my mate got mine in Munich a few weeks before for €100 with the socks
Keep out the way on corridors of the staff carrying food and beer, they have no time for politeness and I saw a few people being removed after giving them st for being gently kicked/bumped
You don't have to tip but €1 per litre is fairly common, if you plan on staying in the tent and want your beer quickly then use a note for a tip, my mate gave one €20 and we could barely keep up with the constant flow
Try not to go on any of the faster fairground rides later on, we stupidly did 3 in a row and area is completely packed. Next thing I knew I had lost everyone
For Munich in general try one of the famous beer halls, this one is the most famous and very touristy but you should still visit
http://www.hofbraeuhaus.de/en/index_en.html there are other beer halls across Munich from various breweries. My mates local was Hofbraukeller which is worth visiting
You will have a great time in Munich and Oktoberfest

This is fast approaching and I am excited as hell hahaha!
Still not found a decent strip club and the stag is demanding it. I'm sure there must be a few in such a big city though.
Been looking through #oktoberfest on IG and looks brilliant so far despite the weather. Fingers crossed next weekend is sunny and bright!

Change of security this year and the whole Octoberfest will be fenced off. I think they are also banning rucksacks / bags etc.
Check out the plans before you go.

I was there on Sunday & Monday.
Security was easy, just no rucksacks. Women's bags are checked, quickly, and that's about it. No queues at all!
DON'T BE LATE TO YOUR TENT IF YOU'VE A TABLE BOOKED. YOU RISK LOSING YOUR RESERVATION!
Sunday evening: I went into the Hofbrau tent. Mental, beyond belief, but really good fun.
Monday evening: I was with my (female) boss and a group from a supplier company, as they invited us. We were in the Ochsenbraterei tent. Everyone joins in with the singing. Standing and dancing on your bench seats is compulsory!
5 litres of beer - and a very good (surprisingly so) meal later - I was like a water balloon!
The atmospehere is great. No problems with drunken people. This is cultural, and taken very seriously.
(BTW, if you want to buy lederhosen, the checked shirt and the hat, there are loads of shops/stalls on Bayerstr. - by the central station (Hauptbanhof) - where you can get a full kit for €80. If you're rich and/or very stupid, buy your lederhosen from Hugo Boss at Munich Airport! )

been to munich on a couple of stags (not oktober fest), the beir halles are great fun. oompa music, big beers, pretzels and chatting with your mates..... whats not to love?!?! but def best to have a couple of beir halles in mind so you know which direction to head in.
as for dancing establishments, there are some around town, no recommendations, but I would seriously suggest not going to one right opposite the train station............. it was the one closest to our hotel and the ladies were of a certain vintage shall we say...... if you ever wondered where dancing girls go for their later years..... look no further.....
