Hi all,

Currently trying to get this years holiday booked.

We've decided on Playa Blanca in Lanzarote, a resort we've visited before and liked. Previously, we stayed at the Holiday Village (Flamingo Beach if anyone knows the area), but for some reason it's now no longer a Holiday Village - and it looks like they've curtailed a lot of the all inclusive restaurant options etc. - so decided against returning there.

Our travel agent has suggested the H10 Rubicon Palace as a potential alternative. I remember passing it when we were in Playa Blanca last year, so I know where it is - I also remember it seemed quite large.

I know it's not very PH to book an all inclusive resort in the Canaries smile However, has anyone stayed at the H10 Rubicon Palace recently? I'm interested in what you get for your money if you opt to stay on an all inclusive basis (e.g. dining options etc.), and in general what it's like? We'd be staying in August - me, the Mrs and our 6 year old.

Thanks,

Steve.

It's a bit out of the way, I know someone who stayed there probably 5 years ago and they loved it, that was all inclusive but some time ago.
Yeah - last year when we stayed at the Holiday Village on Flamingo Beach, I went running past it on the way to the Pechiguera lighthouse most mornings - it is right at the westerly end of Playa Blanca, but with a 6 year old in tow, we're not likely to do a massive amount of exploring. He just wants to be in or near the pool all day - we want decent food and drink, and the occasional kids club break smile

You have the Lanzarote Princess which I closer to the town centre, we are staying at the H10 White suites in Feb but only on a b&b basis. Breakfast is ok ..... Never eaten in the evening there though, we always eat out.
We saw the Lanzarote Princess being built (or majorly refurbed) when we were in Playa Blanca last year - its certainly another option (everything is going to be fresh after the refurb).

Prices everywhere seem a fair bit more expensive than they were last year - so it's a tough one... Ideally we're looking for somewhere where we can eat a la carte occasionally (not a fan of buffets), and somewhere that doesn't feel too "football tops and tattoos". I'd probably have gone for a nice villa with a private pool, and eaten out every night. But the Mrs thinks our son needs other kids of his age around him to play with (and she's probably right), hence looking for a resort.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply. Our travel agent thought you only got 1 a la carte visit per stay with the AI package - but you're saying it's 1 visit to each restaurant per stay? (which would be much better)

Thanks for all the information - I think we'll probably give the Rubicon a try. The package price my travel agent found (~ £3300 for 3 people on an AI basis, for 11 nights mid-August) is pretty competitive when you look at other 4* resorts in the Canaries - especially when you have to travel during the school holidays. Since its classed as First Choice Premier, you get stuff like extra luggage allowance etc. (we'll be flying Thomson, because we want to use our local airport).
