I know this isn't to everyone's taste, but I have the means to take the family to Florida next summer for two weeks. The kids want to go to Disney World, but we also want to do some exploring, Kennedy Space Center is a must for me. I have a lot of thoughts and questions. Would a week in a Disney hotel, then a week in an Airbnb be better than staying in the same place for two weeks? Is there a travel company that would organise everything? Or am I better sorting everything out separately myself? Where are the must visit places and the must avoids?
Apologies, I've not booked such a holiday before and it seems quite daunting considering the costs involved.

Thanks again for all the help and advice. I realise that other parks may have better rides, but the kids want to go to Disney. The experience is more important than the rides

Wow, lots to read and digest. Thank you everyone. Still in the early planning stage.
Has anyone used Ever After Holidays?

Wow! Lots of interesting replies and things to think about. Has anyone had experience with Ever After travel agents? They have great reviews and seem to personalise holidays for their customers.

Bit of a thread revival.
It's been fascinating reading all the replies, suggestions and experiences.
A friend recommended a local travel agent as the lady there is a bit of a Florida expert.
We have booked two weeks in August flying BA World Traveller Plus. The first 5 nights are at Disney Carribean Beach in a 5th Sleeper room. We then have the rest of the holiday in a villa with a large pool, jacuzzi and games room equidistant from Disney and Universal with car hire. Also we are going to Kennedy Space Center and meeting an astronaut and having a day at Discovery Cove swimming with dolphins. There is also Universal tickets for when we need them.
All this was only slightly more than two weeks in a normal room at a Disney hotel with TUI, so can't complain.
She will also book droid making and any other experiences we want.
I don't know who is more excited me or the kids!

A few questions. The more I read into visiting Disney World the more it sounds like you have to plan it like a military operation, with when to do each ride you want to do to avoid queues, etc.
Is this correct or can you be a bit more chilled and be a bit more ad hoc with your planning?

“Disney isn't a holiday
It's an endurance exercise for both your mental and physical aspects

The old joke of needing a holiday to get over a holiday has never been more true than Disney especially if your unfortunately taking kids too”

So true.
We took the kids 3 times and each time stayed 2 weeks on site - Polynesian resort the last 2 times.
Having the ability to relatively quickly go back to the hotel each day to chill or whatever for a few hours made it so much easier on us all.
We have 5 nights booked at the Disney Carribean Beach Resort as it has the Skyliner that takes you into the park. Then we have 9 nights in a villa at Kissimmee. The days staying in Disney will be the busy ones. We can the decide what to do. A must is Kennedy Space Center. As I said in a previous post our travel agent is very knowledgeable and helpful.

There's a massive thread all about it on the Dibb forum.
Looks like a good idea. Can you fill it in before you leave?
