Well there is no denying it's here is there? There is a house near me with it's outdoor lights up, my local was trimmed up like Santa's grotto about 2 weeks ago and it's all over the television (Stacey Soloman needs a bullet in the new Iceland advert. Makes me cringe everytime I see it.) On the other hand, I think the new John Lewis Christmas advert is wonderful.
There are of course elements of 'the season' I enjoy, but a lot of it is contrived, commercialised rubbish.

So, fellow PHers who have a dislike for the season, vent here and let us unite with crys of 'Bah Humbug'.

Yours,

Bah Humbug Bus.

My missus works at the head office of a large retailer based in Nottingham, with a company name that sounds like an item of footwear. She will have I reckon 3 or 4 Christmas parties - one with her current team, one with her previous team (moved about 4 weeks ago), one with the team previous to that and a generic finance people party. She may well be invited to a party of a company she used to work for. Drives me mad every year.

As a contractor, I'll have fk all - unless my current client invites me out at some stage.

Hey, she's got a job; you've got a job. Be thankful. Plenty haven't.
I am thankful. Very.

Exactly! It's only November and you'd think Christmas is starting earlier each year.

Days off, presents, Home Alone on the telly, Quality Street..... What's not to like?
I'm sorry but you've contributed to the wrong thread. I'm sure one entitled "I love Christmas me! It's well wicked and everything" will be along soon.

wink

Disliking Christmas is one thing, but actively spouting your dislike on a forum?
The Lounge (and the P&P when it was) has had a 'I hate' and 'I love' Christmas thread every year I think.

Am I the only one who wants to smash the telly up when either one of these adverts comes on:

Iceland with that silly bint from Essex.

Sainsburys with Jamie 'the ' Oliver.

What gets me is the money people spend when they don't have it. The OH's brother and his wife are fked financially - started an IVA earlier in the year and recently received a court summons for non-payment of council tax. They treat her (well, their) Dad as a fking bank. He got to £3k of 'loans' this year (so far) and stopped adding up so as not to depress himself - fortunately he's not short of a few quid. The OH's Brother's M-I-L BORROWS - yes, BORROWS money EVERY year to pay for Christmas and then spends the following year paying off the loan before taking out another for the next Christmas.

Despite this. On 3 kids. They've (excluding their M-I-L) so far spent £500 on presents - and haven't finished yet apparently. It fking pisses me right off. I'm very firm with the OH that we never loan them a penny as she has before and has never seen it again. I work hard for me, not to bail out others time and time again.

Soon after my wife left me I fell on hard times. I remember one Christmas where I admitted to people I'm not flush so not spending much - I think my Mum asked me to buy her nothing in fact. It didn't do me any harm.

I see the "I love Christmas" thread has appeared so thought this needed a bump.

Yesterday I went onto Facebook (I know). One of my 'friends' had posted a picture and it made me realise how I dislike elements of Christmas. She had neatly arranged all her gifts, including some of the posh bags they came in, made sure any designer labels were showing and decided to brag. Sad cow.
