Tragically unfunny, best avoided. The very worst of nerdish attention whoring possible.
The casual equivalent of a comedy tie, destined only to be worn by the terminally dull or the terminally stupid.
I always wonder what these people say when someone asks what it is on thier t-shirt and why they have it? DOes the following conversation occur

Proud Wearer:"Oh this old thing? >stretches out gleaming new t-shirt as though they have never seen it before. sniggering<, you're going to love this. It still cracks me up every time. I go on this forum, right, and every time someone does something bad all the other poeple say that they deserve VBRJ which stands for vigilante bum rape justice"

Puzzled Innocent: "What other people? I've never heard of it"

Proudwearer: Oh, the funny ones. Like CorvetteSteve, Revhead, y'know

PI: No, I really don't. ANyway, why are the initials of that phrase on your t-shirt?

Proud: I think its really funny

PI: OH is that the time? Sorry I have to be at elsewhere. Bye

Dusty, my thoughts exactly.

The kind of people that dont realise that Steve Mcqueen looks cool in a gulf jacket because Steve Mcqueen is impossibly cool and looks like that in anything.
They believe that it magically transforms a 5'7 acne scarred teenager with glasses like penfold fromm dangermouse and arms like pieces of string into Steve Mcqueen because the jacket is magic

Also, if you asked them what VBRJ on the t-shirt stood for they would give you a secretive smile as though they were 'in the know' and say something like "I could tell you but I'd have to kill you"

THat prompted this thread actually.
I was amazed at how much my opinion of him instantly plummetted.
Of all motoring journalists I've always had more respect from him than any, and the moment I saw him in that t-shirt I was amazed to realise that from that moment onwards his opinion counted for exactly zero in my mind.
SOmeone said it may have been contractual, so Id like to discover the truth and re-respect him but until then he is effectively the IT geek from The Office telling me which cars I should like

No different to Hamilton wearing stuff with santander plastered all over it.
No, its like santander asking Hamilton to dress up as a cashpoint and wear a chequebook hat.

This thread was going well until this post, Chris is wearing the least crap t-shirt on your list and works for PH!

You losing respect for someone due to there clothing choice is pretty sad and I hope it's a joke.

Leave Chris alone, he is great wink
Got to agree with this. I have no issue with the non comedy t-shirts and I just see them as someone showing their interest/affection for something.

After that post BSR I think I can safely summise that this thread says a lot more about you than the people who wear the t-shirts...
I beg to differ. This thread proves that I was correct. Around two thirds of respondents, like me, think that there is something mentally retarded about someone who wears one of these t-shirts. Hence discovering someone wearing one of these is exactly the same as discovering that a man you know wears his grandmothers pants. You just cannot see them in the same way thereafter

Strange, all it proves to me is my long held suspicion that the majoritoy of PH'ers who post on topics like this are far too worried abuot what everyone else thinks of them and could do with growing up a bit.

I imagine a look at the current "wardrobes" of a lot of the people who are poking fun/abuse at the harmless choices of others would be quite interesting.

All very silly, and reminds me being at school 20 years ago...

That's an ironic thing to say . I'd say its the exact opposite of that. I cannot think of an item of clothing that screams "look at me. I believe I am so funny and quirky" than a tshirt with vbrj on it. I find it just plain wierd that you find criticising something that childish to be childish

The funny thing is BSR many would assert the same view about people who drive Mitsubishi Evo's.
Here's where the diffence is.
I know you are right, and even my wife mocks me for it but I genuinely do not care. I dont buy it to say something to others or to project an image to anyone else. I dont think it makes me look cool, I think it makes me look chavvy and childish and I do not care one iota.
As mentioned, the only reason you would buy one of those t-shirts is to say something to others and this is my whole point. You wear one because you think it makes you look funny and interesting and hence care what other people think. THis thread is doing them a great favour by demonstrating that they are pitifully misguided and project an altogether different type of image.

You seem be of the opinion that they aren't self aware enough to realise the "image" that these t-shirts convey though.

I think in the majority of cases they are probably very much aware, but like you, don't really give a st because it makes them happy. At the end of the day, as you know, that's the most important point.
]
I think you are way off the mark. I am utterly certain that the average wearer is not self-aware enough to realise the image those t-shirts project- or why would you do it? It cant be because you particularly like the t-shirt because they are just a t-shirt with some letters on. I see it as absolute fact that they have a misguided view on teh image they portray.

An Evo makes me happy because it is brilliant fun.
A t-shirt with some letters on cannot, on any planet, makes someone 'happy'

Of course it can. Imagine a tshirt with "very, very, almost lorry" written on it?

How long before catching sight of that in the mirror/shop windows before you stopped smiling?

smile
.
Twice. But it would only be printed once it had been repeated a million times on pistonheads (VBRJ/The Mental). In other words, by the time it made a tshirt it isnt even funny anyway. Plus, even if it did make you smile, why wouldn't you just think about it instead of having it written on a t-shirt?

There's some knickers in a twist on this thread I see. People are banding around the "troll" word as though my opinion is outrageous and incorrect. Firstly I'll point out that the poll clearly shows that 70% of people share my opinion hence I can hardly be a troll.
Ill say the rest when I'm using a phone

Not hyperbole at all, merely a very simple concept . A poll gauges opinion. I'm sure you understand that, yet you don't seem to because you seem adamant that the 70% of people who disagree with yours are somehow 'wrong'

An opinion cannot be correct or true. Similarly at cannot be wrong or untrue. That's more or less the definition of an opinion hence I'm not sure of your point

IIt's you who is adamant that your opinion is correct and those who don't share it are wrong. The whole point of an of an opinion is that they are all correct. Just how many of these do you actually own?
