Katie Hopkins. Former reality TV "star" from Suralan Sugar's Apprentice gobste-fest. Since appearing on The Apprentice she's reinvented herself as a "social commentator". Over the past week or so she's been popping up in my peripheral vision and every time I become aware of her it's because she's said something rude and stupid, often aimed at children.

Firstly there was the stuff about judging children by their names. Obviously you can't judge a child by their given name, you can only judge their parents. She's also apparently so dim that she doesn't understand that India (her own child's name) is a geographical name, one of her supposed bugbears. Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield wiped the floor with Hopkins in a battle of wits on this one, which tells its own story. Youtube link

Next came her bizarre claim that Paul Gascoigne should carry on with his drinking, even though he's obviously a shambling wreck of a man who will drink himself to death in fairly short order if left to his own devices. - Independent link

Now I read that she has decided that ginger haired babies are "so hard to love". Being foul and rude about people because of their innate characteristics such as skin, eye or hair colour is again a hallmark of the terminally moronic. How could anyone think that they would attract anything other than opprobrium and ridicule for expressing such a monumentally crass statement? Huffpost link

My question is not "Is this woman a total fking idiot or what?" because that much is apparent but rather "How is someone this monumentally stupid not a social pariah?"

I wouldn't have her in my house let alone invite her on a television programme because she's clearly an utter penis who seems to want to be 2013's Samantha Brick. How long will the UK have to put up with this bilge before we grow a spine and maroon her on Rockall?

Dude. Delete the thread and deny the oxygen thief publicity.
I know, I know but this forum is nothing compared with the coverage her banal utterings receive in real proper newspapers. This is a drop of piss in a massive ocean basin full of sewage.

And you don't consider that some comments are made just to cause a reaction and get the publicity?
Why would anyone want to be widely and publically regarded as a total idiot though? If you're going to be a talking head on television why not say sensible and insightful things rather than spouting such utter rubbish?

Since when was dislike for Katie Hopkins and her views a right/left issue? Do those who identify themselves as being on the right wing of the political spectrum really want to ally themselves with Hopkins or see her as representative of their views?

I wonder if a line can be crossed that cannot be uncrossed?
She really is the lowest of the low.

She sure brings out the s of PH.
100% agree. Her language of describing people as cockroaches and viruses has some extremely unpleasant echoes which anyone with an ounce of historical comprehension should be able to immediately identify.

The top story on all the news sites today is that hundreds of people have died in the Mediterranean as a migrant boat has capsized and rather than attempt a humanitarian response Hopkins (and some PHers) would like to send gunboats.

If anything you were too kind MarshPhantom.

That's a no then is it?

You're okay with her directly echoing Goebbels?

Show me the two direct quotes, i am not familiar with either.
Goebbels' diary 27/03/1942 - "The Jews will destroy us if we do not defend ourselves against them. There is a war of life and death against the Jewish virus."

Katie Hopkins - "No, I don’t care. Show me pictures of coffins, show me bodies floating in water, play violins and show me skinny people looking sad. I still don’t care. Because in the next minute you’ll show me pictures of aggressive young men at Calais, spreading like norovirus on a cruise ship...this plague of feral humans...Make no mistake, these migrants are like cockroaches..."

Like she said these people are the human equivalent of cockroaches and will survive anything.
Are you really referring to the people trying to escape either persecution or poverty in the middle east and Africa as cockroaches?

How do you figure that the people who have been drowning by their hundreds and thousands will survive anything?

I was quoting Katie Hopkins, my thoughts were why rescue them when it would only encourage others to do the same
You were approvingly quoting her, so presumably you agree that the people desperate enough to risk crossing the Med on crappy, overcrowded boats are "the human equivalent of cockroaches". That's a pretty stty opinion to hold.

Why attempt to rescue drowning people? Basic human decency perhaps. Surely it must be possible to simultaneously do what we can to hamper the efforts of human traffickers while at the same time recognising the humanity of those risking all to seek the better life in Europe which we take for granted.
