Chatting to another Boat owner last Friday, weather was glorious and 10cc's ' I'm not in Love ' came on the radio and he said it felt just like the Summer of 1976, to which i readily agreed.

Then when i actually thought about it...38 yrs ago..Jeez.

For a short while afterwards i just sat on the Pontoon feeling somewhat sad by just how long ago those times were.

FFS, i wanna be 13yrs old again.

Anyone else old enough to remember that crazy, hot year?

p.s. ( i know the song was out in 1975 but for me it brings back unforgettable times from '76 )

Really great that so many here are in the age group to remember that year and love some of the photo's...more please!

It's true what a few have said about staying out all hours with your mates.
Pack your float rod, loaf of bread, maybe 1/2 pint of maggots and a packed lunch and off we went, only came home
when it was getting dark.

Thursday nights was Top of the Pops.
Red bus rovers on a day trip to London.
Crackerjack on a friday.
AA films at the cinema.

We had 2 holidays that year, a week each at Tenby and Bigbury Bay.

Someone invent a time machine........

o you're right, they weren't called Walkman. This was the sort of thing made in 74/75 although I'm sure my girlfriend's one that I used was a Sony.

Jesus, that picture brings back memories.
I remember walking around with one of those constantly playing Showaddywaddy ' hey rock and roll '
After about 30 mins the batteries would start going flat and the song slowed down.
I seem to remember liking the odd Bay City Roller number as well but don't tell anyone.

rofl Exactly what I thought

Ah yes, '76 cloud9

I was 13 and can honestly say that for me that year stands out against any other.

It seemed to go on forever, and it was hot in a way that I've never experienced since, either here or abroad.

On reflection it was however a very bad time to be playing with matches. I remember starting a small grass fire that caught on to a gorse bush. In a flash that bush went up and within seconds the whole heath of gorse bushes was ablaze. I can remember looking back from 3 miles away (having cycled as fast as I could without pausing) and seeing the horizon thick with fire and smoke.

I genuinely thought I had set the world alight and was beside myself with worry frown

Ah yes the boxes of Swan Vesta matches!

Cap bombs made from to threaded bolts and a nut

1/4 inch donkey elastic from the model shop to make a catapult or if you were really flush with cash
then buying a Gat Gun.

I'm struggling to think of what machines there were in Amusement Arcades before the video revolution.

Can remember the obvious ones like pinball and and that Air hockey thingy but apart from them was it all fruit machines?

Oh, i almost forgot the horse racing one that you still see today.

Did anyone else get the trucks with open sides selling all manner of fizzy drinks?

I also remember another fizzy from the offlicence called 'peardrax'

Can also remember knocking on doors for any empty bottles we could return to the offy.

EDIT-

Just found that peardrax was withdrawn from the uk market in 1988.
Shame as it was bloody lovely.
Whiteways used to make it.

Although i was to young to own a car back then i sure do yearn for the days when you could open the bonnet
and see exactly what was where!

It isn't even possible to change the bloody spark plugs on some cars now as they are buried under god knows what.

Back then it was so simple to carry out your own service / repairs.

Change the clutch? no worries just drive it up the ramps in the road and slide underneath.

No ECU's to to go wrong and put you in limp home mode.

I seem to remember the main worry about breaking down on the way to the coast was overheating.!

Super bouncy balls. We used to chuck them on the road to see if they would bounce over the house. Nine times out of ten they would...and then they would be lost frown
Lol, i forgot about the bouncy balls!
We also used them for long range knock down ginger....why did they call it that?
