Do you know what your colleagues earn?

Had a bit of an awkward incident today. I work in IT and had someone in HR call me with a problem.
I needed to use remote control software to let me see what was on their screen and to be able to control their computer.
The software we use always prompts for approval before allowing us to view anything so I simply cannot decide to have a nosey at what someone is doing.
Being HR I'm always very cautious about ensuring they have nothing on screen that they wouldn't be happy for me to see so I ask and "Oh no it's fine" is the response.
That's when I find myself looking at a Word document outlining the job contract of the guy opposite me with his salary in big f
king bold letters.
I'm really wishing I hadn't seen it tbh, not out of jealously or anything like that as we have different roles, but I still feel slightly grubby about knowing exactly what he's earning.
