I've struggled with my spelling and grammar for as long as I can remember, I just can't seem to get the hang of it. Even words that you use a fair bit, it takes me a while to spell it correctly. If I can't spell one word, I'll often just find another to use instead.

I want to improve it for a number of reasons, I want a job that requires being able to write statements (Police) and spell check isn't always going to be around. It's also embarrassing when someone is reading something I've written with lots of spelling mistakes in.

I did OK at school, English Lit I got a C, and English language I got a D. A couple of years ago I retook English language as I was applying for the Army and the job I wanted required a C or above. I really struggled with it however.

If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it.

Thanks.

How much of what you wrote in your original post was "fluid" and how much was relying on the spell checker as there's nothing there that would have me overly concerned tbh.
I made a huge effort in that post, struggled with embrassing but got there without having to use spell check.

Brought and bought I always get confused with, I know they are different, but I can never remember which one means what.

Thanks for the replies smile. I'll have a look at the suggestions once I'm back from work tomorrow smile.

Have you ever been tested for dyslexia?
It's something I've thought about, but not really looked into it. I'm not one for having labels for the sake of it.

Looking at his posts, I wouldn't have thought he was dyslexic. My mate is dyslexic and I often have to call him once he's sent me a text so he can explain what he meant!

I'd also suggest reading - doesn't have to be highbrow stuff, but something you like.

Do you read a lot / anything at the moment?
It takes me ages to get into books, it can't be fiction as I'm no good at imagining things and I get annoyed with myself. Much rather read an autobiography. That being said I'll go through stages, I read Guy Martins in a week, but John Bisops I took a lot longer, despite really enjoying them both.

I'll have a look tomorrow at what books there are, and pick up a newspaper.

Writing on piston heads has had the biggest effect on my spelling and Grammer.

Or affect?

Anyway I have a lot to thank the grammer nazis for.
I do tend to take more care when posting on here than other forums as I know how quickly something will be picked up on lol.

I struggle with English, I've got no hope with any others!

I've often got 10/20 minutes spare every so often at work and was wondering if there was any apps that maybe useful?

I do have the kindle app, however it's not always long enough as I'll have to re read a page or two to remember what's happened, or I'll lose track of time and be late.
