I don't work Mondays; I stay at home to look after the youngest.

Whilst messing about in the front room I noticed a collection of smartly dressed people, all very respectable looking making their way down our lane (assumed a family walk as its quite rural and stuff. Anyhoo about an hour later there was a knock at the door and me and the boy opened the door. There was a chap and his pregnant wife and their young child at the door. Very ordinary looking, very smart and very polite.

So when I smiled and asked if I could help, the chap said 'yes, you can...please could you watch this video.." And he whipped out his smartphone and started playing the video right in front of my face. It was an animated thing with fluffy clouds etc... After 2 secs I asked him what it was. He said they were Jehovahs witness and wanted to come in and talk to me.

Now, I have my own views and I'm happy with them. As they were so polite I returned the courtesy and said ' Ah, ok. It's not convenient and being honest I' not really interested..'

Him ' Another time then, we could call around and have a chat'
Me ' I have my own beliefs and I'm happy with them thank you '
Him ' Was this house for sale around 10 years ago? I think we came to view it..'
Me ' Erm maybe, we moved here around nine years ago...'
Him ' Oh great, can I come in and take a look around'
Me ' No, not now or not ever, thank you for your understanding'

I shut the door and went inside feeling a little prickly. Now, given the world is alight with the flames of ISIL and their enforcement of their uncompromising beliefs I found it a bit of a real life demonstration (albeit in a very mild form) how some passionate believers feel it necessary to try and make others believe in what they do.

I just don't understand why they would take time out of their day, get all dressed up and go knocking on peoples doors trying to convert people.

My take on this is that everybody is entitled to believe what they what to believe. I see religion as a differing take on what people think about who is their god and how they should live their lives , etc. That's fine, absolutely fine with me and I care not what or who people choose to believe in. Its like football teams — everyone thinks their team are the best ones to follow.

So, I know this post isn't really going anywhere (Ive just stopped typing and read what I have typed so far) but if there are any people here who feel they need to convince people of their beliefs then please explain why.

Why can't people just accept others and not try convert them? The world will always be at war unless people just chill a bit with the religion enforcement.

Right, my dinner is ready, sausage on tiger bread (toasted) for a naughty treat.

What about the characters that stick a 'betterware' catalogue or similar through the letter box? They get upset when they come and ask for it back a few days later only to be told that it's in the bin laugh

I generally don't mind them knocking as I enjoy a good debate. If I'm not busy and they're polite, I'm happy to talk to them.

Wasn't there a chap on here that had two Mormons knocking on his door when he was decorating, he told them he didn't have time to listen to them as he was painting, unless they wanted to give him a hand. So despite being in suits one rolled up his sleeves and helped him paint whilst the other read from their book, I could certainly put up with that sort of thing.
I might try that myself next time if two hotties knock on idea
ill tell them im too busy having a wk unless they want to give me a hand...
