I bought a poppy at the back end of this week and it's lost already. I'll buy another one to wear on Remembrance Sunday. Result is double bubble for the coffers of The British Legion. Most of the period where Outraged From Tunbridge Wells is phoning in with disgust should a poppy fall from a presenter's clothing on live TV and Facebook friends are posting that they will be wearing their poppy with pride and anyone offended should immediately unfriend them I shall be poppy free.
Who wears them, when do they wear them, who doesn't and who gets offended by those who do wear then or those who don't.

The obsession with this over recent years is incredible, and not in a good way in my opinion.
I think it's a reaction to other social changes...
I notice a change in attitude, an aggression towards those less obsessed. We seem to be more focused than ever remembering (and being angry with those seem to fail to remember) those who served in 1914-18 than we did when I was a kid in the 1970s and quite a few old boys who had served were still around. To be fair those guys should be in the same boat as those who died at Waterloo . Like I said I buy a Poppy, I quietly reflect on Mum and Dad's memories of family members they lost and don't give much of a thought to those who don't. Social media is a nightmare. I really can't be arsed with profile pics with a superimposed poppy or the "copy and paste this if u support our troops. 95% of you wont" nonsense.

And another

Both women wear a Poppy, both women contribute to the British Legion. One chooses not to wear one till Remembrance Sunday itself the other wears one in public but not on TV as a point of principal as she is banned from wearing the symbol of all other charities. Both views as fairly inoffensive yet both have attracted a hail of abuse on social media.
