I have lost my Oakley 'Gascan' Polarised HD sunglasses, and I am annoyed at this because;
a)They cost me £140.
b)I only had them for about 12 months.
c)I really hate losing stuff!

I have some metal rimmed RayBan's for wearing with smarter clothes, but for driving, cycling, holidays etc I felt the Oakley's were ideal as I found them to be optically excellent. The clarity and glare reduction seemed very good.

I don't really want to spend another £140 on some plastic sunglasses, but I do need to replace them, so can anyone recommend anything that will be very good in the optical department but maybe a little lighter on price?

I had a look at some polarised Bloc sunglasses (think they were the Delta model which looked quite like my Oakleys) and they were £40 which seemed suspiciously cheap to me, but maybe I've just been conned by the price of others in the past??

Over to you smile

£20 is more than enough for shades. They cost about £1 to make.
I kind of agree which is why I started this thread, to see what else was out there as have really only ever experienced RayBan, Oakley and a couple of others.

You would hope that a company like Oakley genuinely would put far more resources into making top quality lenses than cheaper brands, or is it just marketing bullst?

Apparently my Oakleys had 'Pluntonite High Definition' lenses which are allegedly 'one of the most optically pure materials used in eyewear today that filters 100% of UVA, UVB, UVC and blue light up to 400nm'

I'm not 100% sure I buy all that sales patter...

Your in luck the UK Oakley outlet is having a sale on their already cheap prices. http://www.eyewearoutlet.co.uk

(No I don't work for them just a long term happy customer)

They have a shop in gunwharf, Portsmouth with some designs even cheaper in store if your local. You will also often find them at big shows like the festival of speed. I think I saved about £140 on my radar locks.
Really appreciate that link! thumbup

I had no idea there was a cut price UK Oakley outlet. I generally avoid even looking for web based sunglass outlet type places as they are almost always fake/scam places.

This thread has now caused me to make an impulse purchase biggrin

I have ordered some of those polarised Sungods, so will let you know what I think when they arrive! I have gone for the 'Classics' design with an all Frosted Grey frame and Blue mirror lenses.

They may be crap or they may be good, but for £35 I'll soon find out in about 2 days and tell you what I think.

In the meantime... I'm still looking at buying some Oakleys from that discount shop link smile

I had a look at the Maui Jim's, and whilst they do look very good, they are verging on twice what I paid for Oakleys for the ones I would buy so I've put the Maui Jim idea on hold for the moment...

I really like the look of them, what are they like in real life?
I bought the classics just as a spare pair but I think they're alright.
The frames have a bit of flex to them and the lenses aren't as good as my Ray Bans but for £35 they're good.
Well I'm not impressed so far...

Ordered and paid online this Monday and got the screen saying 'order accepted' etc, yet haven't yet received an email confirming my order/payment so sent an email yesterday morning to their customer service saying I hadn't had confirmation of my order or payment yet.

Still haven't had a reply.

I purchased a lovely pair of Oakley sunglasses a couple of years ago for around £140. About a year ago I scratched one of the lenses but never got round to getting a replacement. Then about 6 months ago I sat on them and bent them almost in half.

I sent them to Oakley asking if they could be repaired - wishful thinking but worth a try I thought.

They came back to me and said I could buy a replacement frame for £40. So I asked could they also put new lenses into the new frame as one was scratched. Yes they said, that will also be £40.

So a new frame and lenses, basically a new set of sunglasses, for £80.

That is great customer service!

Cool story, I know.

Well I take it all back! The Sungods have arrived... So pretty prompt service really. Ordered them late on Monday.

Nicely packaged and decent quality cloth bag with them.

First thing I noticed is that the lenses were completely covered in fingerprints on both sides I presume from person fitting the lenses, so they needed a good clean first. You would have thought they would give them a quick wipe before boxing them up.

Just worn them for the drive from home to office.

They do feel really cheap when you first get hold of them. Very light and flimsy feeling. But actually because they are so light they are very comfortable when being worn as I just discovered.

Nicely finished plastics though. I went for Frosted Grey frame, it's a matt finish and slightly translucent. Brushed alloy side logos are nice.

The lenses are correctly polarised (I've checked!) and to be honest, they are pretty good quality. The polarising works really well and I noticed how good they were during my drive at eliminating the reflections on other car windows, water, and glass on buildings etc. The clarity is really good and the tint is good. Good for driving.

Overall, I'm pleased for £35.

You can get polarised Bloc glasses for £35-40 and I think I would rather have these.

Book yourself a holiday in Spain. For £140, you can get about 10 pairs of Oakley's from the lucky lucky men on the beach, see, you don't even have to go shopping to buy them. Result!
And then book yourself into the eye clinic when you discover they aren't protecting your eyes from anything at all... wink

I did buy a fake pair of sunglasses once actually, but I didn't know for sure they were fake until I got them.

They were a pair of Spy+ Helm 'Ken Block 43' edition sunglasses and they were on eBay listed as secondhand and I just fancied them so won them for about £10 which was suspiciously cheap.

When they arrived they looked pretty good but as soon as I tried them on I knew they were fake! The lenses were like looking through slightly cloudy/hazy plastic... awful.

Threw them in the bin.

The top ones:

I'm happy with the Sungod's for the moment, but if anyone else is wondering else there is out there, a friend recommended 'Hawkers' sunglasses to me.

http://hawkersco.com/

Made in Spain but post to UK within 5 days.

Same idea as the Sungods - Polarised and UV400 but 30 Euros a pair and loads to choose from.

Their Facebook page appears to have the special editions etc on there: https://www.facebook.com/Hawkersco

Well... the Hawkers turned up, from Spain, in 48 hours which is pretty impressive.

Same kind of thing as the Sungods, includes a nice box, cleaning bag, usual stickers etc. Polarised/UV400 and exceeds protection requirements for EU/Australia/USA.

Budget feel to them, but nicely finished plastics and the lenses seem really good. Correctly Polarised (I've checked).

I went for Carbon Black with Emerald lenses.

Although they look quite similar to Sungods in the photos, they are a bit of a different shape and I actually prefer them to the Sungods. Squarer looking and I do like them. More like the SPY+ Helm glasses.

Total cost for these were £23.50 including postage. There are some on their site for around £19.50 inc postage when you convert from Euros.

Crazy cheap. I can afford to have a couple of pairs and lose them for that wink

For the price - very good.
