Know it all staff

In a queue yesterday at a well known catalogue retailer Ar*** and someone in front was purchasing a Hitac** TV. The till operator that told them that said manufacture used cheap components and so the TV would ultimately fail, so she suggested they purchase warranty cover, like WTF, really, is she qualified to give that statement out?

My father in law also got caught from another retailer offering extended warranty/insurance rubbish for a TV he purchased because the kind salesman told him that his home insurance would not payout if there was accidental claim, but theirs would. I went back to the shop and got my father in law a refund.

I hear such terrible sales advice in shops especially those selling electrical items, what have you heard?
