So, just in the process of cultivating my first beard. Early doors, only about half an inch at the mo.
Just wondered, is there a beard owners nod or acknowledgement of sorts, as you get with bikers or certain cars?
Amazing how many beards are out there once you start. I'm like a moped rider at a superbike day at present, so avoid eye contact completely. But for those Spartan types out there, do you ever give a beard brotherhood nod or tug?

I'm sporting a fairly large beard at the moment. People either seem to love it or hate it, but it does attract a lot of positive comments (and fondling from random drunk women in bars!).

Since taking a break from fast cars to raise kinder, I'm enjoying this new, ultimate slow paced hobby.

Bear in mind I'm no expert though, still figuring it out myself!Let it grow and find a decent barber to sort it out. Mine's pretty long now and I've got a lovely handlebar 'tache that doesn't need any wax to style these days, it just curls on its own. Or because I keep twiddling it.
I get the barber to trim it up every week or 2 depending on how I'm feeling/it looks. Takes 5-10 mins at most. Where about are you? My barber is in Twickenham and is very good.
Other than that just take car of it - shampoo/condition regularly, a bit of oil to stop it looking straggly and a quick blow dry to straighten it out.
As Mr Will said, I get plenty of compliments and people wanting to talk too. Plus lots of girl seem to love it. Which is nice.Bath.
I'm really at the beginning of the journey. Thanks for the advice. Really do need to trust the barber. I could see someone really messing up months/years of "hard work" not shaving.

Comp first, then clippers with a ~no.4 guard on the sides to blend with my sideburns. The front I just gently trim freehand with a short guard on the clippers, then no guard at all to tidy the moustache. Finally a razor to clean up neck and cheeks and it's good to go. In reply to the OP's original post - what you do, is find the biggest, most badass looking biker you can with a beard - and yank it downwards. This signifies trust and will not get you harmed in any possible way.
