Hehe well, not as bad as it sounds, but I wonder had anyone else ever done this, or am I just a lonely sadistic weirdo?

For the last 2 weeks or so, I have had a small spider living in the driver's side wing mirror of my car. I don't bother him, and he doesn't bother me. Yes, every morning when I come out to use my car, he's built a new web from the mirror to the door, but unfortunately I keep blowing it away once I drive the car.

However, I have admired his (her?) tenacity in re-building the web overnight, every night. That must be a huge job, and somewhat annoying. Not to mention the fact that it means the opportunities to catch food are greatly diminished each day.

Anyway, the spider is only small, so I kinda feel a bit guilty. I got in my car to go to the shop earlier, and when I got back in, most of the web was still intact, and I could see the little critter poking out from behind the mirror glass.

Just then, one of those flying ants landed on the door sill - I had the window open. Despite it being half as big again as my spider, I was suddenly overcome with dark thoughts, and before I knew it, I had picked up the ant and deposited it into the middle of my spider's web.

Well, my spider thought it was Christmas. He (she) came legging it out from behind the glass, straight for the prey - not caring about the size difference. After a short struggle, my spider had completely overcome the poor insect, killed it totally to death, and wrapped it up and dragged it off into the dark enclaves of behind the mirror glass.

I did feel a bit guilty about the insect dying, but at the same time I felt like David Attenborough for a while, watching this fascinating struggle in nature....it totally captured my attention whilst it was going on, it was really interesting to witness, happening between two tiny little forms of life. Sort of makes you forget about all the big things in life, and wonder about the visceral cycle of nature....know what I mean?! biggrin

Anyone else been captivated by something like this, or am I rambling like a mentalist?!
