The parkrun that I am involved in is coming up for it's first birthday, and I have been tasked with providing a bit of entertainment at the start and thought about getting a few smoke grenades to put about the start as the runners set off.

I have seen some called Enola Gaye, any pointers on using these?

Also if this is a crazy idea someone please let me know!!

I was going to suggest you buy some l83a1 smoke grenades but it seems they might not be able to be purchased any more, I used my last ones earlier this year otherwise i would have helped out.
Cheers Silent was thinking about these http://www.airsoftworld.net/enola-gaye-ring-pull-c...

If you're 14 years old, it's not advisable to let a small one off in your bedroom. Your parents will notice & not only that, your room will stink for about a year.
Noted monkey!

Kaelic any suppliers come to mind?

Enola Gaye stuff is good, I have been using it for years. By a strange coincidence I was at their place just yesterday.
Thanks Derek! I might just set them off at the finish, you can see the finish for a good way away so it will have a good effect.

I just need some safe pyrotechnics now for the start.

Surely a 60/40ish blend of Potassium Nitrate and Icing sugar is the way to go? Cheap and smells lovely.
I need about 6, so bought 15. I will post pics of resulting chaos after net Saturday, along with a hilarious anectode of how it all went wrong.

It turns out we have the English ladies 5k champion, and the parkrun 5k record holder coming for our first birthday. I hope I don't blow everyone up.

A little tip for you seeing as you have the wire pull smokes. Pull the wire at 90 degrees from the smoke, don't pull it upwards or it may not light. If they fail to light you can normally start them with a lighter or matches.
Thanks Derek, nice to know!

Is this a public park? In these paranoid days, I would expect armed response within 7 minutes ...
It is a private park.

The other organisers are a bit worried about them being a bit smokey at the start.

I don't know what they are worried about, as my earlier test shows.

Our run went off this morning we had one grenade at the start that was good, but at the finish there wasn't any wind and so the smoke didn't disperse, so we only let one off. Very effective, will use one at the halloween event.
