Rite chaps I'm after a little advice my wife is pregnant with twins, I'm thrilled to bits however we haven't got any other children so everything baby related is new to us, has anyone had twins and available to share any helpful tips?

Congratulations!

Echo the rest / sleep advice, enjoy it while you can. Time will not be your own for some time.

If you have any DIY jobs to do, do them now, you won't want / have time to do them once the nippers arrive!

If you don't mind me asking, are the twins the result of IVF? Often is the way with IVF treatment.
Some sound advice I've started the DIY jobs and the wife has bought the odd baby things nappies etc.

The twins were conceived the old fashioned way wink no IVF involved.

I'm fortunate enough to have worked for my employer for a long time and they so far have been very flexible with me I'm hoping that continues.
Distraction tactics while changing bum(s) A* advice and I never thought about vouchers or that some babies don't get on with certain nappies I thought a nappy was just a nappy.
I really don't know how my wife and I' life will change but I'm sure we will cope.

I'm taking lots of mental notes nothing falling on deaf ears. we bought the child seats brand new from John Lewis as they had a special offer on where by purchasing the 0+ seat and 1+ seat which takes them up to 4 years old they gave the family fix Isofix base for free normally £150 by its self, so I saved £300 their as I needed 4 car seats spin

Here they are stacked in my living room wobble

So I have listened to the advice, we now have a bigger freezer to store more food which we will pre make, we have a small selection of different brand nappies to see which ones the babies don’t get on with, we have a baby formula mixing machine which makes a body temperature bottle in 2 minutes just to help out in case breast feeding is to difficult, Gumtree and EBay is our friend with one crib already purchased, DIY is always an ongoing thing but more emphasis to complete jobs before I don’t have the energy to.
The wife however still needs some convincing about changing the pram to a cheaper one but she wants the bugaboo donkey and I want to save £1000 but I'm sure to keep the peace I will surrender on this one.

I have also mentioned nice and early if we are having twin girls the sports car/bike fund starts wink

Don't feel bad about this. You are performing a valuable public service.

Without helpful chaps like you buying £1000 prams, two important things can't happen:

  • Nobody can buy it from you for £200 in 2 years. Sad.
  • The senior managers of Mamas & Papas won't get two months use of their 520d straight out of your pocket. Also sad.
On behalf of the merry eBayers, and the senior managers of M&P, thank you.
hehe

Your wife is worried about other mums being sniffy about a second hand pram. After a few outings it won't be any different.

Tell her you're buying her a second hand one and you're having £400 each to spend on what YOU both want.

I say again, F CK SNOBBERY. It always costs, and never helps. Charity shops, ebay and gumtree are your friends in this.

Any tosser can spent a fortune on this exercise. Be smart.
My wife really isn't the type to be bothered by new or second hand or what other mums think, she loves the car boot I'm the one that cant stand them.
The only expensive items we have bought new are the child seats as I wanted the security that they were 100% safe and hadn’t been in an accident or damaged in some way.

I agree F CK SNOBBERY il be covered in SH IT and piss to care about what people think.

OP - I have PMed you but I think the system is broken right now. If you're interested I have a fully functioning iCandy Apple parambulator with the 2 seat system in borderline perfect order if you might be interested in saving many hundreds of pounds.....Just bought a place in Cambs too so reasonably local I think.
Thank you for the offer but we wanted to stay away from prams that had the seats one on top of the other, I have heard from a few people I've spoken to in passing with twins that they ended up changing this type of pram due to arguments later on, who gets the top seat being the main complaint, I don’t know if you ever experienced that? Thank you once agian.

Without wishing to bring a downer on the thread if they are Monochorionic (ie share the same placenta) then please keep an eye out for signs of twin-to-twin transfusion. If you're in any doubt and the doctors tell you to stop worrying, punch them in the face repeatedly until they listen!
Monochorionic covers 66% of all identical twins. We went rarer... much rarer at 1% and had monoamniotic too. One is still in NICU at 6 months old (coming home soon thankfully, albeit with nursing care).
our twins are Dichorionic/Diamniotic : each twin has his/her own placenta, chorion and amniotic sac they may or may not be identical, we find out the sex on the 8th Feb but we wont know if identical until born if the same sex of course.

There has been some fantastic advice thank you all so much, keep it coming and your stories their keeping very much entertained.
I'm very excited for their arrival however I'm not sure if I'm more scared/nervous at the moment as I feel quite helpless, if the Twins were here I could protect them in some way if that makes sence.

I have found a local twin club so I'm going to make contact with them soon and my wife an I will make an appearance before my wife gives birth to see if they can offer any additional support seems like a good place to meet some people and maybe make more friends.

My wife and I watched a video before I posted this thread about Twins and one thing in particular which they mentioned was about the comments and questions you will get by your friends, family and the general public such as IVF, double trouble, rather you than me and random people stopping you in the street and in supermarkets etc, I didn't quite believe what they were saying and we wouldn't possibly hear any of that but I've been total surprised, I've had a lot of people say very nice things but alot of negative comments as well even abit of jealousy coming across from some people its been very strange so far I don't quite know what to make of it all.

Thank you to anyone offering to sell your unwanted prams I haven't received any Pm or have I been able to convince the wife about prams yet hopefully all options still open

Specific question to the parents on here with Twins, for night time sleeping did you use a cot that attaches to your own bed if so what did you use I'm finding it very difficult to find one that's suitable / large enough for twins.

I'm looking for somthing like this which will alow two babies to sleep comfortably together next to mum.
