My 20 year old backpack has finally broken a strap so I need a new bag.

Tempted by a messenger type bag and there is a lot of choice from £20 off Amazon through to silly money.

Does anyone have any suggestions on something that is decent quality so should last, and that is vaguely worth the money?

Crumpler look OK, leaning towards something canvas/waxed cotton than leather if that helps with any suggestions.

This. It's canvas, the right size and masculine.
There's a line where it's a handbag and IMO that's just crossed it smile

Any reason you want a messenger bag? Carrying them is a pain, esp with a laptop.
Fair question and I must admit I've found myself looking at a few rucksacks and asking the same question.

Biggest PITA I can see with many messengers is there is no handle so you have to use the strap or carry it under your arm - I know that I'm not a messenger so it's me not using it for the intended purpose.

And no beard, no skinny jeans, far from it but god forbid anyone should want anything nice on PH biggrin

If your commute involves London and trains, if you've got a rucksack/backpack then the rest of the world hates you.
It doesn't so it's not an issue.

To be fair nothing to do with any "manbag" stuff (though honestly, that River Island thing WFT?! laugh) I just don't want to be walking doubled-over if I ever need to carry anything heavy.

5 pages until that was posted, PistonHeads is slacking smile

Much as I expected some ribbing, it's simple, there's a stload of brands that I've never heard of, that you never see in shops unless you live in somewhere like London, and that you wouldn't know about until you got to page 17 of Google.

One very important lesson that I have learned is to never ever under any circumstances Google "waxed mens bag".

Funny thing is I'm starting to see how women start collecting handbags laugh

Genuine question, how many here "rotate" several bags?
