It would be fair to say I like a change of car. This brings about a change of forum that I inevitably join to learn a bit about my new ride which brings me to my point.

Some forums are harder work than others and by that I mean either less friendly or more `cliquey` or have less amiable members in general. I'm aware there is forum etiquette and so on but there are some where not only myself (but others) just don't seem to be accepted. Now this doesn't bother me at all as I`ve been on loads of forums and have got on brilliantly on many so it's more fascination with the psychology of the posters and the type of cars they own.

I joined a Jeep forum 10 years ago and it was the best forum I ever was part of. I joined a Porsche forum last year. Bell End central.

Has anyone ever joined a forum and struggled a bit then left?

Some fair replies there. It's right enough though, some forums have some seriously switched on helpful technically minded individuals and then there are others offering complete dog st advice which couldn't be further from helpful. Another thing that annoyed me about some forums was a lot of people think if you're looking to buy a certain car then a forum members car was ideal as they were `enthusiasts`. Half of the time that couldn't be further from the truth. Botched, abused cheapest entry into a particular brand was what I noticed from the "I got mine cheaper" or "I'd never pay that" brigade.
Oh, and never ask what your rare, low mileage mint car is worth on a forum either as it'll lumped in with the 9 owner high mile, needing a gearbox variants of the same manufacturer..

I've accidentally logged into a few American car forums while searching for DIY solutions to problems. Don't want to appear overly xenophobic but God are they thick!
Well. I have owned a few American cars and the UK based forums have some thoroughly decent blokes. I was however on sn95 forums a few years back and some of the posters there, well, did come across as bit retarded. Some of the technical issue advice was so staggeringly wide of the mark it wasn't funny. It was like the blind leading the blind at times.

There are some unappreciative `Berkeley Hunts` on some forums as mentioned and I remember a few years back a certain individual needing something he couldn't get in his country (he lived in Canada). I decided to show a bit of charity and send him the items from the UK he needed free of charge if he paid the postage. All was great and I sent them away. Weeks passed and PMs exchanged as they hadn't showed, him claiming a customs seize or a mail blunder.

I left the forum and moved on to new stuff. About 6 months later I logged back on to see what was happening and Mr `million posts` had posted pictures of his finished project complete with my contribution that had apparently went missing half a year earlier. All to save $25 postage. Dirty bd. Well, I sent a sharp pm telling him I wasn't impressed and I got more or less told I was `easy`.

Well, I had the last laugh. He had posted a year previous on the `other stuff` section that he needed advice as his wife had had an affair and was pregnant to her co worker but they decided to stay together, make it work and raise the kid.
I won't go into detail but I resurrected the thread and fired some seriously low blows before it was locked a few days later and I was banned. Well worth $25.

Focus RS, I know to some they'll be the most expensive car, or most exciting car they'll ever own, but for christs sake, it's a chavved up family ford focus at the end of the day.

This and also when people sell up and move on, "don't do it! Keep it! You'll regret it! Put it in dry storage, it'll be worth a lot more one day!"

Yes, I've seen that a few times. Some rotten old bodged up dog with high miles and st panel gaps getting bummed up. "Wish I had the cash". ?? I don't think I`ve ever bought a car off a regular forum member. I can came close once and scanned EVERY post they made until I found the car in question had been smashed but that bit was omitted from the advert.
Yet, some of the donkeys that knew this still bigged it up saying it was a `steal` for someone at hardly a great price.
