Advice on Kent please...

I'm off to a do at Bilsington Prriory south of Ashford in the sumner.
It's one of those type of events we are obliged to go to, so I'm looking at splashing out on a nice hotel on the way south, and similar on the way north back home after the event.
Any recommendation for not too expensive places to stay near the Venue? Basically we're just after somewhere clean to sleep and maybe breakfast.
It's a wedding so we'll be drinking and need to cab it to and from the venue.
I'm thinking somewhere on the coast. Would that make for a big taxi bill?
South of Ashford isn't a place I know at all. Any advice appreciated.
