We haven't done this topic for a while: What sort of behaviour, phrases, spelling mistakes etc annoy you most on this forum (or PHs in general) ?

For some irrational reason, people who call other people "Fella" irritates me. So does use of the word "loose" instead of "lose".

What's yours?

However, the thing that really gets up my nose is destination bragging.
Example: "I just booked first class tickets to (insert exotic destination here). What's it like? Any tips on what to do/see there?"
My question is, who makes arrangements for vacations, not knowing what they're letting themselves in for? Or is it more a case of, "Look how flash I am".
Exactly. I always wonder why they've decided to go some where they know nothing about. Sometimes it's a really well known destination like Paris or Rome and they're asking what's worth seeing. As though Rome has suddenly been built and only a few people might have been.

Then EVEN WORSE some complete wker replies with some noncey recommendation of a restaurant or jeweller and tells you to "ask for Sophie" as though they're letting you in on some awesome secret. FFS

"Xxx..." Thread titles so you have to open the thread to find out what it's about and it invariably contains nothing interesting.

Repetitive dull threads like this and the people who add to them month after month with the same comments.
I often ponder if people aren't actually paid to post or start threads sometimes.

Looks like we've got ourselves a little trigger puller here ya'lllllll!!!!!! /hill billy accent

Replying 'Wow, just wow' to any thread should result in the offender receiving endless pamphlets of gay porn subscriptions through their mailbox until the day they die.

  • Starting a sentence with a conjunction.
‘In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
And God saw the light, that [it was] good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.
And the evening and the morning were the first day.’

Genesis, Chapter 1, The Bible, King James version

it's good enough for God so it's good enough for me!

Are you from the good ol US of A? No? So why are you talking like you are? Do you also say alu-minum when trying to pronounce aluminium?

If you fall into this category you need to go and have a word with yourself.

What pisses me off most about PH is when one person decides to take over a discussion thread by steamrollering everyone else into submission.

They will write out huge long subdivided posts in which they will make spurious claims as if they're the word of God himself. They will pompously accuse everyone else of using strawman and ad hominem arguments. They will make it impossible to have a reasonable discussion through their tedious posting style and possibly most annoying of all they'll use the sniggering smiley which is the badge of the most arrogant of know-it-all prats.

Even worse than that are the whingeing puppies who do use strawmen, go ad hominem at the loss of an argument (i.e. early on), fail to address all aspects of a post they're repying to because they have nothing to offer but will hypocritically criticise others who do, then get annoyed when PHers pick apart what they say, finally running off to cry to mummy in The Lounge about it. At least all the other whiners cam do a me-too and feel better. Not a subdivided post in sight and no smiley, this is rohrl perfection no less and what a relief to have such lofty approval for posting on a public forum...which reminds me, the reeeaaally annoying people are those who moan because they can't control how other people write posts and act like those who think differently are doing something wrong.
Oooh someone touched a nerve there I think.

Do you drive a helicopter, I think fly would be the correct word.

OT, the thing I hate, are the phrases are that regurgitated into every thread. The one being the Dunning–Kruger effect, used for middle lane hoggers, when it has clearly no relevance. It pops up on threads daily and if they could be bothered to understand it would find out it actually has little relevance.

I would suggest that the number of the same lefties who are always posting on NP&E, queuing up here to say it is inhabited overwhelmingly by the right is evidence they are wrong. Look folks - the real world contains people with other views and they dont necessarily echo those of your mates on Facebook, Twitter and CiF. It must be hard coming to terms with people posting opposing views and I am sure you secretly desire some Stalinist censorship of counter-revolutionary views.
Have you ever read the NPandE?

Any election poll on pistonheads shows a massive majority to right wing parties. There's no doubt whatsoever that the NPandE is hugely right wing. Even conservative voters get called jealous lefties.

Posters using "Derv" when they mean "Diesel"

"I filled my car with derv." No you didn't. You filled it with diesel. You did not fill it with other Diesel Engined Road Vehicles. The fuel is called diesel. You put it in your "Derv."

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I'm noticing it more and more and it's really winding me up.
