In response to the "Council" thread which now seems to include so much that this will probably die on it's feet.

"Things which are not Council at all"

My first suggestion :

Driving a Volvo V70 pre 2004

Sending a letter (yes an actual letter) to friends and family at Christmas saying how the children are and highlighting any significant events through the previous year.

My Mum always receives several.

Yes, we get a couple of those from friends of the Mrs. Frankly though, pretentious wkers telling me how many exotic holidays they've had and how marvellously little Satsuma is doing at school can fk right off.
Yes. They never tell you the offspring have learning difficulties and husband has been caught for tax dodging.

Jemima and Tarquin are always excelling at school and learning the Cello.

Looking forward to the Dressage and Equestrian at the Olympics. Bonus points if you can name any participants.

In fact, pretty much all Olympic sports are not council.

There's some really good stuff here.

For me "Not council" isn't about money, not at all.

Plenty of people with a lot of money are very council, plenty who have little are definitely not council.

Watching "Salvage hunters" last night.

The whole programme is definitely not council.

Drew visits some serious "Old money" people in their homes which are often full of period antiques and paintings. The owners invariably have threadbare clothes and old cars.

The Olympics or more specifically team GB) is definitely NOT COUNCIL.

Firstly the football, which is a council sport, is very low on the list of highlights, GB aren't even in it.

And most of our competitors will have been raised in a traditional family group, taken to clubs by their parents as youngsters and dedicated themselves to their event avoiding many council activities.

Three day eventing, fencing, rowing, shooting, hockey, and so on are far, far from council.
