So, summer is officially over, I've searched but haven't found this year's thread anywhere so thought I'd start it myself.

We gonna see any of the white stuff this year? smile

If the thread is already running elsewhere then I'll skulk off in disgrace getmecoat

Pfffft - back to the summer thread please.

This thread does not open until the first predicted snow on Cairngorm (actually it's snowed on Cairngorm occasionally through out summer this year).
I checked, it's almost spot on 365 days since the last one opened!! frown

I really want this thread re-opening soon then, I'm sick of having to put the A/C on in the flat!

fk.

I know I'm in a minority in the UK but I really do start to get fed up with the heat very quickly indeed!

At least tell me that all this heat probably means a freezing winter?

AC in a flat I wish I had that in my furnace. Was that installed when you moved in or did you add it afterwards?
It's just one of those portable ones, I stick the pipe out of the window and leave it running in the bedroom for 5-6 hours before bed. It makes a world of difference, in the worst of the weather I can get the bedroom from 28-29 degrees down to about 20 degrees by bedtime. Best money I've ever spent.

The trick is to put it on for ages so that everything in the room is properly chilled, the bed, the walls, everything. That way it stays cooler for longer after you switch off (you couldn't sleep with it on unless you had good earplugs!)

I am tempted with a proper split system (water cooled with internal compressor as I can't put anything outside) but they're about £5K!

I'm sure that Nathan Rao just copies and pastes the story each year.

Anyway, it's getting distinctly cooler here this evening on the south coast. I'm almost in my "Goldilocks" zone smile

Well this morning I actually woke up a little cool, so clicked the heating on via the app for the first time this winter (according to the thermostat it was 2 deg outside!). Also had to wear a coat when going to the car, and pop the heated seats on.

Happy days. biggrin

Keep up the good work chaps, I'm loving the pics of our first snowfalls smile

Now, should I try to guarantee snow on the south coast by not buying my Cross Climates this year? I think I will!

I'm pleased that several months after this year's thread kicked off it's finally livening up.

I'm less pleased that the forecast for Brighton seems to be 6 degrees and heavy rain. This is most displeasing.

Some snow which is lying on cars but not the road here in Brighton.

Noticed a couple of flickers in the lights too!

Anyone know what the overnight temps are looking like? Without any salt it's gonna be an ice rink tomorrow if it freezes!

1023 homeless ?

Surely there would be an outcry, must be more to it ?
To be clear, it doesn't mean that 1,023 frozen bodies are found, just that the death rate increases above the norm. There'll probably be all sorts of extra deaths ranging from respiratory problems, exacerbation of existing medical ailments, heart attacks right thorough to obvious cold related deaths like slips on ice.

If you're very old, and can't properly afford to heat your home then when it gets colder outside, it will get noticeably colder inside. In the course of my work I've been in the home of a young family in winter who couldn't afford gas, and it was about 10 degrees in the living room. That won't do an 80 year old much good...
