I have awful hand-writing, it's really is bad, my young nieces have better hand-writing than me. I try to avoid writing infront of other people.

Luckily I work in IT so don't have to write although when taking notes in meetings I do feel embarrassed and try to cover my notes as best I can from the person sat next to me.

I make my wife write cards, letters etc and usually I will just sign it. I hate signing cards at work because there is no getting away with it then.

I am left handed but I don't think that makes a difference (even though I have heard it can be) and on odd occasions it can look ok but the conditions have to be right ie resting on some padding and even the nib of the pen but most times it's a right mess.

Anyone suffer the same?

There is a thread on fountain pens and handwriting on PH

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Fountain pens can help train you to write better, even left handers, I suggest using a fine nibbed pen.

Basically its down to practice, get some graph paper and write out the alphabet in small letters. Someone I know whose handwriting looked like a 5 year olds practiced handwriting and now her handwriting is just beautiful.
Cheers Robbo, will give this a try.

Op, is this you?

I'm obviously kidding but I know a lot of lefties who hold the pen in a strange way/weird angle. I wonder if it's having to go left to right with the "wrong hand" iyswim? Bit like a rightie writing right to left!
Ha nope I don't hold my pen like that, I hold it like any other person I guess. Think I do press quite hard though so need to maybe loosen up my arm. As a left hander I do leave a smudge of ink on my little finger as it trails over the ink that I have just written.

Will try other types of pens too like thick biros, at work and home I'm just picking up the nearest thin biro, that's probs not helping either.

How are you with spelling?

My handwriting is terrible when it comes to words I don't know how to spell. I've recently been diagnosed with dyslexia, and the scruffy handwriting is a way of hiding being bad at spelling.

I'm also left handed, and have the paper at a 90 degree angle.
My spelling is ok and always has been, it's just the actual writing words and letter down that looks messy.

I have never tried one but this ball point pen looks to have some basis of sense in that it makes you hold the pen in a certain way.

It may be worth trying.

Interesting...for that price it's worth a punt.

My handwriting is terrible. I work for a pharma company, where most documents are checked by someone else and I'm always getting complaints.
That's not bad at all, wish mine was more like that. From what has been said on here I am going to buy myself a fountain pen and practise every day (he says). Hopefully might see some improvement,
