Today on my travels I saw a Yellow Sign which said "no access to Burn Dick Hill".

Now I thought historically places were named after events etc, so I assume a few hundred years ago someone in Boxsted Essex had a bit of a disaster with a nude BBQ.............

What funny place names have you driven past?

It's actually Burnt Dick Hill, not far from me, as is Fingringhoe smile
Quite right, that's a typo on my part.

I went past it again this evening, and some old bloke was (despite the pouring rain) taking a camera over to the sign, so I guess I was not the only one amused by it!!

Ah yes, Fingringhoe down past Colchester......... Again, you have to wonder how that got it's name.....

You've got to wonder why people buy a place in a place called t**t, or Hardon Road etc..

I mean surely the point when the estate agent gives you the full address you decide that house is not for you............
