High pitch noise outside?

Bit off an odd one this but recently I've started hearing a high pitch noise in the back garden / when I've got my window open (faces onto back garden).
I can only describe the noise as high pitch, so high pitched in fact my mother can't hear it (I'm 17), it usually seems to go on for around 16 seconds and then stop. I'm sure my brother (19) mentioned hearing it as well.
It's starting to get annoying, especially now the weathers clearing up so I want to be outside and have my window open!
We live in a rather 'normal' estate in Kent. The only thing I think could be possibly causing it is the pylons that run a few hundred feet behind our house.
Help! I'm going slowly (more) insane....
