I'm going to get done next Friday, and I've just had a 15 minute telephone consultation that appeared to be tailored to scare my balls back up.

I'd appreciate as many reports as possible of trouble free, no hassle during or after procedures as possible. I don't see the need for any pics, thanks.

A slightly different angle.....

Make sure your relationship is perfect. Really perfect. I know someone (not me!) who had the snip, only for their relationship to fail later and then for them to met a new perfect woman, who is desperate for kids.....
This won't happen. I'm in a very happy and stable relationship. If it did fail, a woman who is desperate for kids isn't going to be the right one. I've two already, and I'm too old to start all that nonsense again.

As for the procedural advice, I've been told not to shave, and that the single incision will be cauterised - no stitches! I've got the speedos ready, and I'm looking forward to a weekend on the sofa.

All done! Procedure took about 10 minutes.

A couple of hours on, I've got a dull ache in my abdomen, which surprises me. During the procedure, there were a couple of toe curling moments, and one when I jumped a fair bit. The incision's surprisingly small, and not where I expected it to be.

I hardly felt the needle, but when she was pulling the tubes around, it was impressively sore.

On day two, sex drive is a bit less than usual. No bleeding, only minor swelling and pain.

Marathon session with the youngest on the wii this morning, and I've just gone and bought a jockstrap. What a revelation. Highly recommended.

All good so far. Couple of paracetamol and ibuprofen, took the dog and the boy to the park this afternoon and kicked a ball about gently.

Ballbag a bit swollen and tender, but not unbearable. The incision is incredibly small, and right on the pasty stripe. For some reason, I imagined they would go in the side or at the back.

Nothing yet. Swollen, but no colour, unfortunately. I'm looking forward to that.

I'd forgotten about this thread. A month in, everything's fine. It still feels a bit different, but after 40 years of everything being connected, I suppose that's inevitable. Good luck.

A further update: I'm one in 2000 men for whom the procedure fails. What a kick in the balls.

Booked in for a repeat performance on 10th May.

Unbelievably, about 4 hours after today's procedure, I was chatting on the phone and noticed a stain spreading on my jeans in the ballbag area. While continuing the phone call, I slipped out of my jeans and had a look. fk me. I'm now in Frenchay hospital. The world and his wife have had a look at my scrotum, and the paramedic that came out estimates there was a pint of blood on the kitchen floor. Great guy, let me put my jeans and several teatowels in the wash before he brought me here.

I wouldn't recommend vasectomy, based on my experiences so far.

It eventually stopped bleeding at about 2 am, and I got a taxi home with a very nervous driver at 3am. My scrotum looks like it's been through a lawnmower. I normally keep things trimmed down there, but I reckon I'm going to let it grow for a while!

Absolutely shattered, but very impressed with the way everybody I dealt with treated me. It probably helped that I was the only sober customer in the A&E department last night.

Having had a couple of days to get over what happened, and talking to several people about it, my experience, while similar to Jagracer's was slightly less serious.

These days, there is only one incision into the scrotum, and they do both sides through that. It's generally pretty small, and isn't closed with a stitch. The current theory as to what happened to me is that there was a bit of a nick to the vein - like Jagracer's. Almost immediately post op, my scrotum began to fill with blood. As the pressure in my scrotum increased, the blood breached the incision, and that's what soaked through my jeans. Once I got naked from the waist down, all the blood in my scrotum, as well as what was still bleeding from the vein, rapidly came out onto the kitchen floor. I hadn't felt any of this because of the local anasthetic. The big concern was that I may have been in bed asleep, and not seen the blood. Had it been allowed to continue unchecked,I could have lost a great deal of blood.

I'm almost as fully recovered as you can expect to be. I still wouldn't do it again.

Glad you're OK now whatever time frame they give you for recovery, add a month or so on top as they do like to give out BS to keep you happy. In the end the most painful thing for me was about 6 weeks off work with no pay. frown
Most of my income is from self employment. Fortunately, my customers are pretty understanding, but they want the job done. If I had to take 6 weeks off, I'd be dead in the water.
