I notice that the Blood Transfusion Sevice are having a bit of a push at the moment to get more people donating so, as this is a website with a huge following I'd thought I'd ask the question, do you give blood, did you once give blood and don't now or is there a reason you can't.

I'd add a poll but I don't know how. frown

Anyone been on the new tilty chairs yet?

I went on one last time I gave. A bit weird but nicer than the bunk beds.

Used to (religiously) but the attitude and staffing levels of the 'donation' centres really annoys me, and after one particularly bad incident, I haven't been back.

This really, really annoys me. In my area, the events are grossly oversubscribed with very long waiting times, so instead of plugging the budget into advertising (with a success rate of probably less than 0.1%) they should be directing the budget towards actually getting the donations from those who already willing.
Make an appointment, then you can jump the queue. You can complain while you're donating lol.

I'm curious what the bad incident was.
When I donated for the first time, they missed the vein and left me there with this huge needle stuck in my arm tissue, in absolute agony for about 20 minutes, squeezing like fk with only a trickle of blood coming out.
Only when they saw how little blood had come out did they realise what had happened.
It was such a releif when they took it out.

I did forgive them though. smile

Until you go back, you won't know if they have "sorted themselves out" or not.

They are a lot quicker than they used to be mainly because they encourage you to make an appointment and they can organise manning levels etc around that.

My blood is used for little kids.
It used to have Baby Pack written on my form but now says neonatal.

I can't stand needles and always look away when they stick the big one in. I was going to say the one that looks like a drain pipe but that may put any potential donors off. hehe

You can look at it as a regular mini physical too.
You get your blood pressure checked and full blood work done too.

Shortbread, Tuc, Digestives and Taxi biscuits were the offerings today.
What are these tilty chairs you speak of? Still using beds up here.
You sit in it like a normal(ish) chair while they prepare you and then they recline you to around 45 degrees when they drain you.
It supposed to cut down on fainters I think.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Looks like a good standard of snacks but I am concerned about the lack of Foxes. I hope they're not cutting back.

Were there any titty, err, tilty chairs?

I wonder what you have to donate to get pizza?

I did it! The world now owes me some snowy goodness!

Had a bad moment at the end where I felt very lightheaded as I approached the refreshments table and had lie down again as they thought I was going to faint, but it all worked out in the end!
Congrats!!

Was the lightheadedness because they didn't have Foxes busquits?

How did it go? What was the biscuit selection like?
A little disappointing.
Crawfords ofcourse but no dead fly biscuits.
No Foxes or crisps.
There was an unopened box of Kitkats under the desk and I was too shy to ask them to open it up.

All of this was easily conpensated for by the blood falling out of me so I wasnt "in the chair" for too long and the delightful blonde nursie who did the deed while she told me about how she wants to be a geologist.

All in all, 8/10 smile

Been to donate today.
Hopefully it will be a nice Christmas present for some little kid out there.

Usual Crawford's biscuits, no crisps but they did have mince pies which was nice.

It's obviously the time of year for it as it was very busy.
