Knee clicking - painful after sports

Ok, bit of an odd question, but my right knee has been bad for a while now, and seems to be getting worse. I have developed a loud clicking noise in it, that seems worse after a game of football, but it isn't painful when it clicks. However it does ache when I'm sat with it bent, and it needs to "click" to relive the pain!

Who is the best person to go & see? Doctor first, or Physiotherapist? Any thoughts on what the injury is?

Reading through various medical sites a torn cartalidge seems to be the favorite at the moment?
