I've been using one of the USN ones from GNC and it tasted really good. The vanilla was just like cake mixture and the chocolate was really chocolatey. So impresses was I that I went in and bought the USN GF1 in large tubs today, expecting it to taste the same.

It doesn't.

The vanilla isn't dreadful but not a patch on the other stuff and I now notice it's "vanilla cream". I also note that the chocolate one is "chocolate cream" so I am expecting that to be equally lacklustre.

Having been caught out I am going to be far more careful when I run out (may be some time). I was thinking about giving Bulk Powders a look. Can anyone recommend any of their flavours?

I got caught out with this once when I bought Strawberry and Cream rather than Strawberry and it was so sickly!

Can't comment on Bulk Poweders but MyProtein Chocolate Smooth is loooovely.
Salt has improved the vanilla a lot. I sprinkled a bit of pink salt into it this morning and it has taken on a porridge sort of flavour.

Bulk Powders chocolate peanut and chocolate cookies are nice.

I did buy a tub of Powerbeck chocolate which tastes like a McDonalds milkshake, however I've found recently that it's making me feel sick (probably the excess of sweeteners laugh )

Ones I avoid are Maximuscle - expensive and tastes like off-cheese

TheProteinWorks - good price and mixes well but seems to leave a chemical aftertaste in my mouth
Chocolate peanut sounds nice. Will look into that.

I like whey shakes, they make me feel like I am eating something naughty.

Choc peanut tastes similar to the snickers / marathon bars smile
Ooh I'm not so sure. I bought a great big bag of the stuff and am struggling with it. It reminds me of sweet cardboard. I got three other flavours as samples and to make up the order and I am not keen on any of them. They also seem to mix up a bit thin.

I personally prefer the QNT and USN stuff.

Sorry to hear that, they must have changed the mix frown

My latest Choc cookies from bulkpowders tasted a bit different and more watery so wonder if they've changed the mixture? Maybe try slightly less water to make it thicker.

A recent purchase I was impressed with was chocolate from Powerbeck, tasted like a McDonalds milkshake, but they seem to have stopped it irked Probably a good thing considering the price hehe
Tried that. It tastes like thick, sweet cardboard. wink

Whilst the BP stuff tastes poorly executed and cheap, I've noticed that they aren't alone in messing about with flavours and textures. USN products seem different each time I buy them and not necessarily for the better.

Pink salt?

Tasteless with nesquik sounds good.

Still not tried Pink Sun. I bought some CNP (thinking it would be the same as years ago), not half as nice as I remember.
Himalayan pink salt. White salt is made white because that's what the shopper prefers, however most of the nutrients have been bleached out. Salt with colour tends to have more good stuff in it.

It seems then that whey products are a bit variable with regard to flavour, doesn't it.

Sea salt is white. Salt is white without anything added so pure salt will always be white.
It's off white is it not? But the general public likes its salt white, so it gets processed that way.

Pure salt is bright white (strictly it has no colour, but when you grind it down it appears white). Off white or pink means there are impurities in it. Sea salt isn't pure though as seawater isn't just salt and water. Table salt is purified from rock salt usually, so it is much brighter. There's no bleaching as such, just a bit of anti-caking agent usually.

Also pink salt is a scam, the amount of salt you eat means that the level of nutrients it provides is negligible.

As far as I am aware pure salt is crystalline white with bits and pieces of contaminants in it. It is processed to make it white.

Pink salt comes from a specific mine in Pakistan and contains various minerals, which you refer to as impurities. Whether minerals or impurities is the correct word perhaps depends upon one's viewpoint.

I accept of course that the actual quantities of minerals ingested via pink salt is small in a normal diet. However given that it's cheap, looks nice and tastes fine it seems to me that at worst it will do no harm and at best might be beneficial.

Im not a fan of the Myprotein stuff, last time I had some it tasted awful.

Im using Bulk Powders, currently got the Raspberry Pure Whey, very good.
Better than the vanilla and choc peanut then. I am still using them but have ordered some USN. As soon as it gets here I'll be binning the BP stuff. Not only is it sickly and nothing like the flavours it claims to be, it has an aftertaste like there's a load of salt in it.

What's up with you lot!? Are you sipping the stuff out of champagne flutes with your little pinky extended?

Just down the stuff in one, takes less than ten seconds.

Just saying. smile
When you're in a calorie deficit protein shakes are something to look forward to and savour! Unless of course they taste like this recent st from Bulk Powders which tastes like a whole pack of Hermesetas blended with a shoe box, and which then leaves an aftertaste like an ounce of salt and hairspray.
